Here's something a little bit different; the car is built for SAE's Baja challenge, a collegiate design competition, and was designed and built by a team of students including myself. We did our first big test session today, giving me a chance to play with the car and the camera.

I found that shooting this slow (~30 mph) of a vehicle is interesting, as you need to keep the shutter speeds pretty slow to get good motion blur. I think some of them worked out well, however:

More pictures from this test session (and the project in general) can be found on our website: http://users.wpi.edu/~minibaja/testing.html

wow..so clean. It'll look nothing like that after the competition. I was working on the CSUF baja years ago and just remember seeing it after the comp just beat to crap. It was a ton of fun rallying around the school parking lots, haha.

Nice shots especially for a slower vehicle.

Here are a couple new shots from yesterday (links due to the fact that the images are 1024 pixels wide):

FYI, this is all from a 350D with a Sigma 55-200, ISO-100, mild post-processing (levels and sharpen).

For those of you who are interested, the team has a website with some more technical information, including our design report: http://users.wpi.edu/~minibaja/

My favorite shot from today's testing:

That's actually me driving, and the photo was taken by my buddy, who is not too shabby with a DSLR as you can see. :)

man, that is so cool! i was project manager for our mini baja team back in the day (early 90's). we ran the west competition in el paso, and it was gnarly. one of the best experiences i could have had as an engineering student - it did more to prepare me for the design and product development world than any class i took. funny thing is....i've been in sales and marketing for the last 5 years!

looks like you guys have done a great job. good luck, and remember...to finish first, first you must finish (we had a hard time with that because i drove like a motocrosser...)!
