More newbie questions! :)

I'm looking for the basics for camera maintenance.
How should I properly clean the screen, lens, and camera?

I've read post about the CCD needing to be cleaned. What is the CCD? and is this normal?

Thanks again,
Nicholas

I've never heard of cleaning the CCD - I personally wouldn't try it. As far as the lens, go to www.lenspen.com and get one - they work the best.

Thanks again. I'll look into that... right after I pay this camera off ;)

What should I use to clean the LCD?

The CCD in a digital camera is the image sensor behind the lens. (CCD stands for Charge Coupled Device. It's a light-sensitive chip.)

Sometimes digital SLR cameras (which have interchangeable lenses) have trouble with dust on the sensor, which causes black spots in the photos. The same lens opening that allows some dust in also allows easy user access for cleaning the sensor.

You shouldn't ever have this problem in a sealed digicam like a G3. Even if dust got on your sensor somehow, a sealed digicam isn't designed to allow easy user access for cleaning. It's probably not a great idea for you to take the camera apart yourself. I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice the same black spots on every photo you take.

 Grass - For God sake don't go screwin' with the camera. Just wipe your lens with a piece of lense paper you can get at the photo shop, and take pictures. Enjoy your new camera. I love mine.

Use a lint-free soft lens cleaning cloth to clean those stubborn stains on your lens. But before you do, make sure that there is no chunky dust or grain of sand/salt/whatever on your lens - they will scratch your precious front element if you wipe them around with the cloth!!!

For slightly more stubborn stains, a huff of warm breadth onto the lens will usually mist it enough for me to clean away the stain.

I usually clean my camera lenses facing downwards so that any foreign materials that are on the glass that may scratch it will (hopefully) drop off easily.

Just wanted to see what had to be done, making sure I keep everything in good shape. I don't plan on taking the camera apart ;)

Thanks for all the lens cleaning tips.
