I own an XTI and have been using a 430EX off-camera with the Canon ST-E2 wireless transmitter. I want the flexibility of using a second flash without spending any more money than necessary. (My new hobby is becoming very expensive). I have seen the Phoenix DZBIS-112CII Flash advertised as an option to the Canon flashes at a third the price. Anyone have experience with them? Are there any major differences other than the usual quality ones with a product like this? I especially need to know if it will work with the ST-E2 wireless transmitter. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

It'll work fine on the hotshoe as an E-TTL flash. That's about it.

It won't work off-camera with the ST-E2. There are only a few non-Canon models (from Metz and Sigma) that are designed to work with Canon's wireless system. Further, since it has no manual mode it can't be used to trigger optical slaves. It probably won't work with a slave adapter, radio receiver or PC cord either.

Using multiple flashes gives you many creative options. Unfortunately, Canon's wireless system is an expensive way to go about it. Some other options are here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=308108).

If you want a second flash unit, probably your cheapest option would be to pick up a Sunpak 383 or Vivitar 285HV and an optical slave attachment. Use your 430EX in manual mode, either on the hotshoe or as a slave to the ST-E2, to trigger it.

Thanks Curtis,
Although my thoughts were to stay with the easy-to-use Canon system I am getting the sick feeling every time I purchase something I am paying a lot more than necessary. Thanks for the very informative list of "alternatives".
