I ordered one lens a few weeks ago.
It had a small scratch on the front glass so I returned it for exchange.

After that, I received order confirmation and tracking # for the replacement but I received two of each.. I thought it was weird but didn't think much of it.

So yesterday, I received my replacement but they also sent me another one.
At close inspetion, this another one looks to be the one I originally returned since it has the same scratch on the front glass.

So I'm sitting here with two of the same lenses.
Each has different order confirmation # and Invoice.

I was only charged once at my very first order a few weeks ago...

What to do?

Call the company and explain the issue!

What else is there to do? Get in touch with the company and send the bad lens back. It's not yours anymore since you received a replacement.

Try to setup a return on your original lens that you returned. Give it an honest go at it.

If not, well...use your imagination...

Contact the company and tell them they sent you the damaged lens back in error. It's up to them to arrange return shipping. It's up to you to do right.

I constantly amazed that these types of questions even need to be asked. Call the company, explain the issue, and asked them to arrange to pickup the damaged lens.

How dare you post a logical, common sense-based reply!

Off to the gallows you go.

 Integrity and moral fortitude are going the way of "Common Sense" I received an obituary for Common Sense in an e-mail last week, it was unfortunate how many people did not know it was dead.

Like I like to say: the funny thing about common sense is that it's not so common!

^Seriously. Hanging out in Gen Chat for awhile and I see this more and more. Honestly, we all think you should try and sell it and then when they ask laster why they never got your lens back well, you can figure it out.

Shall I be the first to say stick it on eBay or should I follow my moral fibre and say send it back?

I said he should sell it, just come up with a good excuse if they realized they haven't received his old lens.

Is it a nice lens?? Well, it doesn't matter, of course...

Set up your camera on a tripod, or invite a friend over...get a sludge hammer and take sequence shots of you smashing a brand new lens...

It's a one in a lifetime opportunity...and you can post a picture that no one will be able to repeat, unless this happens again and I see their post...hehehehe!

Kidding aside...call back and return it. Don't listen to the devil inside of you who made you even post this question...

^I like his idea. Be like those idiots that bought a PS3 or 360 and smash it. Only difference, you still have one for no extra price to use!!!

I still never understood that and can only hope they actually wasted their own money and it wasn't supported by some internet site or anything.

Return it, keep the UPS tracking. Most companies catch this stuff, eventually.

Not to be an ass, but seriously, did you really need to make a thread about this? Call the company. Pretty simple.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed an increase in posts where the OP posts something controversial and then never comes back. We do seem to be talking to ourselves you know.

I think we scare them away with the simplicity of common sense and the oddity of good moral standards.

Oh, Integrity died long ago. Long LONG ago. They even told me so.

I was once asked what I valued most in a life partner and I said "Integrity." the person asking me said "Hmm, looks like you will be waiting for a LONG time."

At the rate I'm going, seems like I'm waiting for its resurrection. Maybe at the end of the world when all good things are called back.

In the meantime, about the lens....... :D

Cancel your credit card, say it was stolen, so you get a new number.. Then sell the lens.

(all joking of course)

Noticed "1 post". Perhaps a regular member didnt want to be known? :p

This kind of happened with me and a laptop a few years ago with Office Depot. They sent me two LT's but I was only charged for one. I tried for 3 months to get it straightened out. I live quite aways from my nearest OD and did not plan on driving that far to return it to them. After countless hours on the phone a district manager finally said "Just keep it."

Am I bad beacause I did?

Trust me it was a fiasco from start to finish. This was far from a shock. I've not done business with OD since.

Get more free stuff. I've bought a sword from a dealer in Italy once and paid cash, well, he gave me back like $50 instead of my change, all of 5-10 and then he threw a (closed) knife to me. Heck, what goes around comes around. karma exists so I always think about stuff like this, especially if jail time is possible. I dont get people sometimes...

Obviously tell them the second one was broken too, and send back the first one. When they send you another new one, sell it on ebay.

Just kidding. Do the moral thing. :)

Anyone looking for honest moral advice and guidence on this Forum has got much deeper and serious problems than we suspect.

True... true. I do have to wonder why he would even want to keep a broken lens?

Sometimes companies don't do the right thing either.

I bought a 3Com wireless access point in December, which was intermittent from the start - I traced it to an intermittent fault on its Ethernet port. I called 3Com, who sent me a replacement - but the customer service representative pressed the wrong buttons. It should have been the Dead on Arrival procedure as the failure happened within 14 days. The difference is that with DoA, 3Com pay return shipping on the faulty unit whereas with the unit I was sent, an Advance Exchange under warranty, I was responsible for the return shipping.

I opened another ticket with 3Com asking them for return shipping details, so I could ship the faulty unit back. 3Com immediately conceded that the original unit was DoA, but after four rounds of emails, I had return shipping information for the USA, for Canada, and some non-specific information, followed by a promise that 3Com would arrange a collection. That was in mid January.

At that point I decided to do nothing further; I was wasting my time and money for no benefit to me, and much as I wanted 3Com to have their property back, I had done everything I could think of to sort it out. I had a similar scenario with Dell a while back; I received an exchange projector (actually another brand new factory sealed one) under warranty as promised, but they failed to arrange collection of the faulty unit. I spent the next four months persuading them to pick up the faulty unit (which probably just needed a new fan and a new bulb to work again - the fan had failed, then the bulb blew because it had overheated). It took several chargeable phone calls and quite a bit of time to persuade them to pick up their property, for which I received no thanks and which they had clearly forgotten about.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago, and I got an email from 3Com's logistics partner saying they had no record of my return shipment, and asking me for the inbound tracking details. I replied saying it had never been sent because 3Com had agreed the replacement should have been DoA rules and that they had agreed to arrange a collection. I enclosed all the emails, asking the logistics people to arrange a collection on a mutually agreeable date, send me details to return the unit at 3Com's expense, or notify me in writing that they're abandoning the unit. The silence is deafening. My email did say that if I heard nothing in 28 days, I'd assume they were abandoning the unit.

I've wasted so much time and effort here trying to do the right thing - but I refuse to pay for return shipping when it wasn't my responsibility in the first place and 3Com have agreed it's their responsibility. I can only conclude that 3Com really don't care about their property in this case. As the replacement was supplied with no accessories, and the failed unit seems to have an intermittent fault on the main circuit board, it's probably not worth the expense of getting it back, as it's probably beyond economic repair. That said, it would be a bonus if 3Com would confirm that they were scrapping the unit in the field so that I could do with it as I see fit without fear of any consequences.

In the OP's case, I think the right answer is abundantly clear. The company has made a mistake, and only one of the lenses is the OP's property. Contact the company and ask them what they want to do.

Whilst you could say nothing, you don't have good title on one of the lenses, and your actions may even be construed as some form of theft or fraud. Further, this kind of thing, if left unreported, bumps up prices for us all.

Of course, if you contact the company, and they do nothing with your report after you've reminded them a time or two, then it becomes a different matter. It's best to get confirmation that you can dispose of the lens as you see fit first - ideally in writing - before doing anything with it.
