Can any one help with my query?

My 300D (purchased last October) has started giving me the Error Message 01 which after looking in the manual and on this forum suggests that the contacts need cleaning on my camera, however I have tried that by gently cleaning with a cloth and also had a go lightly with a rubber to no avail.
Quite often the error message 99 appears as well.

I have a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens also a 17-40mm f4 L and a 70-200mm f4 L and the problem occurs with each lens attached.

Another quirk that is happening as well now, is that the built in flash keeps popping up every time I lightly press the shutter button. (Lens cap is off and no matter which mode I'm in and shooting in good light) and even pops up when the camera switch is in the "Off" position and I'm reintroducing the battery.

Shutter speed shows ok but the aperture display is always showing "00"

I have recharged my battery which was nearly full in any case.

I have also reset the cameras settings to default mode and tried another card

I have not knocked or dropped it at all.
What do you think?

I think it's time to give your local friendly Canon repair centre a call :(

It sounds like the 300D needs to have warranty repair.

When you send it in, make sure that you describe each of these problems, otherwise, they might not find them.

It sounds like the body is not communicating with the lens, at all. Then worse things also.

This was happening to me earlier today. Lost a chance to get some photos too. :x

Is the lense locked on? All my lenses would not lock on. I didn't have to push the lense release button to rotate the lense. After I got home, it started taking pics again, but still no lense lock. This was the second time this happened to me. The first time, about a month ago, it just went away. Since then I have had error 99s a few times also.

I had purchased a service plan when I bought it in November, and Best Buy just gave me a new body and lense tonight. I was really glad I bought that service plan. :)

I can get lens lock ok so that does not appear to be the same problem that you have had.

I notice that if you shake the camera gently there is a small rattling sound inside that sounds like something has broken away this appears to come from just under the hot shoe.
I have boxed it up now and will be returning it on Monday to digital-cameras.com I will keep you posted as to how I get on.

Already I'm missing my best friend, we were going out together this weekend
