Hi. I need to invest in a light meter - or so I'm told by EVERYONE. I have a 20d with lens of course, a couple umbrella lights(continuous lights) & my 430ex flash.
I want something easy to use & not a bunch of confusing extras...any suggestions? I like the Minolta IV F (never used one, but seems to be pretty simple looking), but was wondering where else to start looking as far as brands & models.
Any help would be great. Thanks

The Sekonic L-358 is your best bet, in my opinion, of meters that are sold new today.

How long have you had the 308? It looks kinda cute. Does the size of the white ball make a difference in the accuracy? It looks like this one is quite small compared to the L-358's?!? or the IV Fs?!

i own two l-308s and an l-358. the size of the white ball doesnt make too much of a difference. its pretty small, if you ever thiink that you're goign to upgrade to strobes and a PW set up, i'd get the l-358 or a higher model.

The L-308S and the L-358 are going to be your best bet in new meters. The L-358 gives you the option or adding a PocketWizard transmitter module for wireless metering as well as the option for spot metering attachments.
If you suspect that you are going to want both wireless metering and spot metering then you may want to look at the higher end models like the L-558 and L-758DR which have those features built in, and if you're really nutty (like I am) the L-758DR gives you Custom Profiling and communication with your PC or Mac.

If we are moving up market, have a look at the Minolta Flashmeter VI (http://harrysproshop.com/Minolta/Minolta_Flashmeter_VI/minolta_flashmeter_vi.html)...

Hi René,
That Minolta meter looks VERY nice. It looks like it has everything except the wireless (PocketWizard) transmitter. If I didn't need that I would have seriously considered the Minolta.
