Well here in the UK there is still no sign of my 580EXII and I'm wondering if I should get a Quantum instead.

Any users of these as shoe mounted flash on a 5D - comments are welcome and especially pros/cons against the 580EXII

Also what model to go for and diffuser etc.

Used for weddings and outdoor portraits

Many thanks Simon

OOPS noticed the typo in the title ...........

I'll be honest with ya... If you can swing the Quantum 5d-R moneywise, I don't think the 580exII should even be on your radar. That's my take.

I agree with the other member. If you can afford it, go with the QFLash. I own 2 of them and they outperform the Canon Flashes in every way.

But, they are more expensive!

It wouldn't be on my radar if, as you said, it's affordable.

I prefer it in every way to the 580 except portability. It's just a better, heavier duty flash. I've used it exclusively at the last 6 weddings I've done and I like that you can pop that thing all night without it getting hot and bothered. The drawback is that you can't mount it on the shoe and have to be tethered to a battery pack. Not a big deal for weddings, but the 580 is nice when you want to go light and mobile.

Battery Pack and Flash Bracket make it suitable for fairly stationary situations. Not a pick up and run set up. Otherwise, Quantum makes great flashes. I have the T2D.
