I've been thinking about getting a few lights for awhile, but I really wanted to use them outside more than in (for senior portraits, and things like that). Anyways heres what I've been pondering...

AB B800 and those carrying case thingys (x2)
Their Vagabond 150 power unit
One Giant Softbox, and one Large Softbox (collapseable)
The heavy duty 13' stand (x2) (since its going to be outside... I assumed the others might be a little light weight?)
PW Plus II (x2 im hoping I dont need a thrid...)
Either a Sekonic 358 or 758 havent decided...

I'm still a bit undecided, mainly because im still learning a lot about studio lights and such... but does this look alright to any of you?

Guess my main questions are, do I need two lights or can I get away with one? And do I need the third PW? (I'm thinking I'd need a third if I get the Sekonic 758 and want to use the PW firing function with all of the lights and not just one)

Thanks for your time everyone, Studio flash is just confusing the heck out of me right now

i'd go with two lights, two PWs, a giant softbox, and a folding octabox, and the 758

Hmm, didn't even think of the octabox.... that sounds good actually.

Thanks :D

I picked up the Intergalactic Bee kit. It arrived this week. It has the Vagabond 300 power suppy.
Everything functions perfectly. I also got the radio trigger unit plus a receiver for each light. This works very well too and is a lot cheaper than the PW.

Make sure you dont buy the non-foldable large octabox, I find assembling these octaboxes a real pain. For outside work I suggest you get some counterweight since heavy wind can knock off your lights pretty easy.

i dunno, i have a 5 foot octabox, and its really not that hard to put together.

I was just planning on getting both the softbox and octabox foldable units, just means a little less of a hassle on my part I guess.

Haha, I thought about that actually Hoanginc. Figured a large softbox or anything really would make for a very expensive kite if there was a bit of wind  Have a feeling I'll just be using a sack of something heavy at the base of the stands. :)

Oh and welcome to the fourms Hoanginc!!! :D

oh man. in high wind. there is nothing that is going to stop a large octabox or softbox from going sailing. i sandbag my lights and i still have someone holding onto the light stand in high wind.
