We did a quick session of rolling shots out at Miller Motorsports Park last week. Most of the images were for corporate use and are still under embargo. Here are a couple I can share.

Nice stuff as usual John. I like the long shadow with the two-tone Veyron.

Do you know if this Veyron had Colorado plates on it?

I got a couple of pics of the veyron in the garage after it had a nice coating of bugs all over the front, (BUGatti - HA!) nice to see it cleaned up! I have a question for you though...
Was this you, in the background?

very nice.
how did you manage to get no camera shake at 1/40? or were these done on a rig?

Oh, trust me, the other 700 frames have camera shake. :)
Actually, though... there is an old "rule of thumb" that you should be able to use focal length as a guide to hand holding at slow shutter speeds. So, you shouldn't try to hand hold a 200mm under 1/200 sec. or a 135mm under 1/125 sec. etc.
I was using a 17-40mm L Series Canon. I've found that 40mph and 1/40th sec. produce pretty consistent results. Though some will be sharper than others... but with the chase vehicle bouncing and lying on your stomach, there a lot of missed shots.

The shadow is a lot less offensive than some of the other things that creep into the view finder in such settings. Your own shadow is the biggest culprit. Then of course, oddities in the background.

I was wondering how or what you would show different then what you produced last year. Nice shots, I don't find the shadow offensive at all. Please tell me it was not as hot and windy as it was last year. I haven't even looked at the tape from the event yet. Cheers.

It wasn't as hot.... but at times it was MUCH windier. At one point after trying to really concentrate on steadying the camera, I realized the wind wasn't just blowing the lens around... it was blowing ME around. LOL
I haven't really had time to go through my Utah race shots yet. I immediately caught a plane to Charlotte upon returning from Utah. I'll post when I get a chance. I did these the day before the weekend got underway.
