my lights are doing something funny. help

THe other day I went into the studio and for some reason my lights were not fiing like they should. I did not change any settings from the other times I have used them.

To make them work I just used my camera flash to trigger them.

Anyone know why this would happen?

My husband things it was because I had the three lights set to beep when the power cycled through and was ready to fire again, but I have always use it with the beep on.

What tpyes of lights are you using. How do you fire them? Wired? Wireless?

not sure on the brand btu I connect the sync cable to my main front light and it fires with my camera.

I had a similar issue. I have a set of JTL 200's and had one connected via a sync cable to the sync port on the camera and the other set to slave.

All of a sudden one day the light that I always used as my main wouldn't fire with the sync cable connected to the camera. I tried it with my light meter as well, just to rule out the sync port being bad, but same result, no flash fire.

From what I've read, sync cables go bad all the time. I just replaced the sync cable and all was good. Give that a try, that might be your solution.

Hi Sarah,

I agree with Technographer. Sync cables and the PC interface is not a great or reliable one. Whenever you are having trouble with wired sync, make the first part of your troubleshooting to eliminate any or all sync cables and try new ones. I've had 2 bad sync cables in a setup at once and also have had a hot show adapter with a sync port go bad.
Fortunately, sync cables are fairly inexpensive and I would recommned that you keep extra on hand at all times.

See if it is in fact your sync cable.

i tried switching which light was my main and it still didn't work so I will try that tonight. Thanks so much for the tip. I will let you know if it works.
