I just bought a Canon A40. It was the last unit in stock (and Canon boxes are not taped shut when new). And today, after I've only had the camera for a couple days, I noticed that the file number was 134-3340, which implies that 3340 photos were taken.

I know that my Canon G2 started at 0, and so I am assuming all new cameras should start at 0...

So should I go and exchange this A40? Like a "new" car being sold with 3000 miles.. I wouldn't want a camera like that... (unless maybe they give me a discount).

So, did YOUR CAMERA start at file number 0000?

i am sure my D30 did.
are you sure it was not the shops "Demo".
Did you pay full price? or were you given (maybe small) a discount?

they had another boxless one as their demo, this was the last one with a box.

but a few hours ago, i also found that the picture review (reviewing picture in LCD after taking pic) will not change from 2sec to 10sec even though it changes in the menu.

in any case.. i think i will return/exchange it.. i just need to find it in stock somewhere (not online) because i need it for a trip in a week
