Hi, it is normal that the lens make a little sound when you adjust the zoom, like a little scratching, i only can hear it when i put put my ear to the lens and when its all quiet.

Is this the Kit lens? If so I think it speaks of the build quality. I had this lens on my 400D for a day when I bought it and noticed the zoom is not very smooth. Might explain it.

Yes, the kit lens has a scratchy sound when you zoom in/out. Normal but strange...

yes its the kit lens that comes with the rebel xti (400D)
