Indeed.... it's sharp all right.
I really like the first and third pic. Last one gives me the creeps.
This is a great lens.
I will buy it in the near future (#2 on my shopping list)

Senside,
a general comment:
In this forum it's important to know exactly what you are talking about. Whenever you post a picture, it is absolutely necessary to add setting info, i.e. camera, lens, ISO setting, aperture, shutter speed, flash use, tripod use, postprocessing (resizing, sharpening). Without that info you can't judge the posted pic.
specific comments:
Which 100/2.8 macro lens did you use? There are two completely different lenses from Canon, an old one without USM and a new one with USM.
Your images look oversharpened.
Your images have very shallow DOF. Did you shoot wide open or close to that?
Thanks for posting your samples anyway!

thanks for your very important comments,
the lens is the canon 100mm USM Macro, and the picts were taken in AV mode, F:9, with 550EX flash at 24mm with the cup pulled little out to reflect the light down (but not inverted to go to 17mm).
I did sharpen the picts in PS CS, but since I reduced the size, they do not look that great, I''ll try to post some new ones taken in the Qeen elizabeth Park (in vancouver Canada) yesterday.
thanks again for the comments

a small cicada, heavily cropped.I had it sitting on a gold coloured tin lid to reflect some light underneath it and a dodgey old flouro light way above.
The odd colour makes it look fake i think. Some sharpening applied

One of my favorites...mostly because it somehow STILL makes chuckle every time i see it

near 100% crop. The lens is starting to show softness at this magnification

And a quich handheld snap-no tech merit but interesting
