I would prefer them cropped tighter. As Grego has told me a few times, "If it doesn't add to the shot, it takes away from it." It would also be nice to see them sized a little larger.
The first one needs to be plumbed (see the post on the left side along with the fence line).
I like the net in the BG on # 2.

Jeff

What Jeff said sums it up for me, too. I like the #3 for the content - great timing. Imho, the 1v1 battles have more impact with a very tight crop, my taste of course. Exposure, color, sharpness, etc all look good to me on this monitor.
Thanks for posting.

Jeff, Mike thanks for the comments.
The cropping thing is killing me. If I crop tighter, like I did here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=324148) then it's no longer a standard pic size. This time I cropped for either 10 X 12 or 13 X 9 size so it's not as tight.
Am I suppose to crop tight for the web and use a different crop size for prints?
This was a raised field which made for some intersting angles on some of the shots.
See this one. Half the ball and the feet are missing. Would you consider these keepers?

Are you using Canon DPP to process your shots? If you are, you can use the trimming tool and set the aspect ratio to 4:3 for landscapes. When you resize them for the web , they will scale down to 800 x 600, which is the perfect size for this forum.

No I'm using LR. I'm exporting to 800 X 600 but that doesn't always give you the tightest crop.

I think you'll find that for displaying on the web, the 'PJ" (photojouranlist) crop is more the norm. That is to crop as needed and then resize one dimension (I usually go by height, but if a shot is quite a bit wider than it is tall, I will use the width to determine size). As for the crop on soccer shots, I usually crop within about 1/4" of the subject on the top, bottom and sides and then re-size. Sometimes a shot may looks better with some space, but you'll have to work out your own particular style and see if it flies. Unless a shot is abnormally wide I will first set dpi to 72 and then use either 8" or 9" for height. I'm certain many others have their own workflows that work as good or better, so find one that works for you.
