Hi guys,

first let me tell you of the setup I currently have

I have two studio lights, one which has a jack plug connected for remote trigger (Receiver), the transmitter sits on the hot shoe of the camera. the other light is set to slave (Optical). So when I shoot, the radio connected fires, then fires the optical slave.

OK, now when I only want to use one light, I use the radio trigger. (trigger hot shoe mounted). So the light it only goes off when I shoot, without any interferrence from other flashes

How can I use the on camera flash AND use the studio light at the same time. (without the studio light being put on slave) I understand that I can slave the studio light from the main flash, but I don't want other flashes triggering this off.

So basically, I have a 580 flash and the trigger, both hot shoe, but I have only one hot shoe on the camera.

Any ideas guys

Thank Malla,

I did think of that, I'm sorry I should have mentioned, but I am looking at a remote option to trigger the studio light, white also having the flash mounted on the camera. I don't want to slave the studio light.

Just a thought...

Can you get a dual hotsoe ?

So that you place the dual hotshoe on the camera, so that you can have both a flash and a remote trigger operate from it?

Or anything similar ?

580EX on the hotshoe in manual flash mode.
Let the studio lights fire via optical slave.

Thanks Curtis,

The only reason I didn't want to fire the studio light via the optical, is that there will be other lights flashing and setting off my light

The only reason I didn't want to fire the studio light via the optical, is that there will be other lights flashing and setting off my lightWith the right cord, you should be able to plug the radio transmitter into the PC socket on your camera. This can be used simultaneously with a hotshoe flash unit.

Use the PC sync plug to trigger the transmitter...

Edit: Curtis beat me to it... Great minds think alike ;)

PC sync plug?

Sorry guys, not sure what this is or where it goes ?

I have a 5D and on looking directly at the side, I have the following connections:-

top left - Flash sync cord connection
bottom left - remote connection
top right - USb type connection for PC
bottom right - Video out (This appears to be a 3.5mm jack type of connection)

any idea od type of lead or connection etc. (Sorry to be a bit dim)

Nice one guys.

so let me get this right, I get my flash sync cable and the other end of the cable I will need a small jack plug which will fit into the transmitter.

You guys are a fountain of knowledge :0)

Do you have one of the small inexpensive radio slave sets?

If so, it likely came with a short cable. This cable is for the transmitter, not the receiver as many think.

This short cable plugs into a port on the transmitter on one end, and the other end plugs into a camera chassis PC connection.

This cord is typically about 12 inches long. Has a male PC connector on one end for the camera chassis PC connection and the other end is either a male mini plug, or a male sub mini plug (depending on the transmitter version).

Locate this cable and plug it into the transmitter and the chassis PC connection on your camera. Tape or otherwise afix the transmitter to your camera.

Put the flash on the hotshoe and set it any way you want.

Enjoy! Lon
