Went out for a shoot today with some other POTNers (Puddlepirate44, Timbernet & T.D.)...saw lots of birds but this was my favorite of the day...

get a load of the chick on the right...it's got it's head tilted straight up and you can STILL see both eyes!)

They're even uglier than their parents. Freaky. Nice catch, though. Some really wideset eyes, huh?

they are not ugly!!!! i think that herons are stunning!!! :)

Amazing shot Lisa! :D

Hmmm - another "ugly duckling" type bird that grows up into an amazingly graceful, beautiful adult. I've never seen baby GBHs before - cool! Wouldn't have guessed that they nest up high either.

Must say though that the one on the right is kinda freaking me out. All of 'ems eyes are a bit on the wild side. :lol:

Great capture. It's unusual for the parents to raise 3 like this. They normally only keep 2.

Thanks Ron. They are funny looking but I still think they're cute...they did some really wild things with their eyes though. Dan's finished processing his shots and got some funny one's that he posted here (I especially love the *gasp* one) :

I didn't know that! Though the other two nests did only have 2 chicks in them. Thanks for the info...I'm going to watch these three with great interest then.
