Interesting story for sure. You people that are into PP...does the photo look like it has been tampered with? Looks authentic to me.http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=41885
Below the article it has a link to yahoo who also present the same story.
Guess if the mods think it isn't photography related they will take the appropriate action. :o

An 11-year-old boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet 4, from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail.
I'm no expert on arms. Maybe Rhys or someone will pop in and dispute this. But my BS meter is dingalinging. I don't see how that little pistol could take down this honking pig. Unless he emptied a clip into it. But it would have had to have been very close, and even full of metal it should have done some damage to the kid. Something stinks about this story, and it's not the pig.

I saw this a week or so ago. If I remember correctly it was customized S&W .50cal., he shot it eight times, then him and his Dad tracked it for three hours and put one more round in it at point blank range to finish it off.

Funnily enough, I ran into a thread discussing this very issue on another site.

In case this thread gets shut down, or nobody here cares to discuss it.

That's a forced perspective (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_perspective) shot.

Now that you mention it, if you look at the boy it appears that he has his left leg propped up and his right arm is resting on his knee. Thanks for the information Pekka.

Did anyone read the negative comments on their website?
Amazing.

That's a forced perspective (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_perspective) shot.
It would seem like that was the case, but this pig/wild bore mix is actually that big. Another of that size was killed a year or so ago and Discovery Channel ran an episode that investigated it.

We need to clarify something: "customized S&W .50cal"
I'm assuming you mean the newer S&W .500 revolver?
If so, then I call BS just on that alone. That round could probably kill something that large, I'll admit that. What I don't believe is that a little kid would be trusted to use such a weapon.
I've fired that round through one of Smith's new "X-frame" revolvers, and let me tell you...that thing is a beast! I'm 6'1" 190 and I know how to shoot firearms correctly (I am a cop afterall!). It still kicked like a friggin mule and I did not want to fire it again!
Little kid firing that weapon? No way in hell...
Just my $0.02

It looks like every shot is photoshoped or forced perspective. But if it was real, maybe they raised it, made it really huge, then just shot it to death with a pistol...

Maybe I spoke too soon! ;)
Not only was the revolver highly modified, they were firing "custom loads" through it. To me, that means less powder. Or maybe they were using a slower burning powder. (Pistol rounds usually have a faster burning powder)
Even after all that, I still call BS. Those photographs alone raise too many questions.
Time will tell

The original Hogzilla was real, so it's not too far fetched to assume that other hogs of the same size can and do exists. Anyone who knows anything about firearms, terminal ballistics and what 9 rounds of a custom loaded .50 caliber can do to flesh will not find this so hard to believe. I actually read an article from a legitimate news source (I forget where) about how the kid ended up making the hog into sausage. ;)

I heard the kid and his dad interviewed, and they actually convinced me that it is real. Kid said he fired off 16 rounds, 9 of which made it to the hog. Admittedly, it looks fishy, but I am turning into a believer!!!

9 shots and 3 hours of chasing. Sound like that animal really suffered. I'm not a bleeding heart PETA person, but, to me, if you have the means to put the animal down quickly, just do it. That's akin to torture.
Whether or not it's real, I would say it must be. The part about making sausage out of it I find hard to believe. An animal that big and old is not going to make very eatable meat. The family of a friend of mine raised pigs. They had one old bore that was huge, no nearly as big as this one, of course. I asked why they didn't slaughter it as it would obviously produce a lot of meat. He said when they get old the meat is really worthless.
My guess is they made up the butchering part to fend off the activists and justify the kill, but will only keep the head and maybe the hooves, throwing out the rest.

I've tracked a deer before for two hours. I put one shot into it the first time, another when I walked right past it, it jumped up and took off, then stood still for a moment 20ft in front of me.
Short of an elephant gun, there's not much of a means to putting that thing down quicklly.

I didn't see it happen; it's something that would have been on video (camera phones?); all photos except for the gun look rediculous... ***BS***

Has it been mentioned yet, that this isn't a wild pig we're talking about? Apparently it's farm-raised. I'll pass on more info, if I find any or care enough to remember. ;)

What!?!
So this was only a "canned" hunt?
Then I don't see why this is such a big deal. Look, I just shot and killed the largest farm pig in zeh world! Bow before me!
**DISCLAIMER**
I'll admit, I participated in a canned pheasant hunt when I was about 12. Those birds were so tame, the folks in charge would sometimes have to walk right up to them and nudge them with their boots. No dogs were allowed on that hunt (and I think I know why).

It's not a canned hunt, I think the pig got away can wondering into a hunting area.

The only reason I said that is because the story says while the boy was hunting it with a handgun, others were with him with high-powered rifles ready to shoot it down immediately in case it turned and charged him. So, instead of taking 9 shots from a handgun over several hours, it could have been killed immediately with more powerful guns.
They let it go on until the boy killed it with the handgun just to have the story. At least give the boy a rifle and kill it faster if you want the boy to get the kill.
