She had a nest nearby but I don't know if she had chicks. If so, she wasn't having as much luck as the RWBB was. I had never seen one of these before today. Males yes, but never seen a female.

Mitch I'd settle for a shot of the female or the male as this is a(nother) species I've not seen before.

Thanks Stephen. These aren't the best shots, she was just out there at the limits of good cropping power. But I've never seen one posted here, so I thought I'd put them up. Maybe it will help someone else spot some. :)

Cool catch Mitch. I know the excitement of seeing a new bird species (in this case the female....like the RWBB the males look much more colourful). It was awesome to finally see a male Scarlet Tanager in person. It was as lovely as I'd imagined. We did get a male Yellow-headed Blackbird (a rare bird here as they're found more in western Canada) visit east of Ottawa the past 2 winters.

Thanks Canon. Ya know, these are supposed to be quite common here, but I have never seen one til about a month ago. We had redwings everywhere, but I had never seen a yellowhead. :)
