What are people's experiences with this lens? I've read the reviews at FredMiranada and they are mixed.
I love the 24-105 f4L, and I almost walked out of the store with one today, but I admited the fact that I can't really afford it.
I think something in 24-105 or 24-70mm would make a nice addition to my 70-200 f2.8.

I had one copy. It sucked totally.
I had another copy. And it ruled totally!
I have a 24-70L it is awesome (hey buy mine ;)) and I have a 24-105 IS and it is awesome too.
The Sigma is an ok lens if you get a good copy or send it in for recalibration it is fine. It takes giant 82mm filters though.

I have one. I like it, though I wish I had something wider.

The 2470 EX DG Macro is certainly one of the best standard zooms for the money, along with the Tamron 2875 Di. Optically it can be very good, but know that the AF is somewhat noisy and it does lack ring HSM and FTM. But at its price-point, I still consider it quite the bargain.

I've seen mixed review on this lens as well. Best thing to do if you can, is take your camera body into your local camera store and try a couple different lenses, until you find one that you like.
You might also want to consider the Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 XR Di as another alternative to this lens. It gets great reviews, and is well respected. Also, if your using a crop camera, and want to consider something slightly wider, you might want to look at the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 XR Di II.

I've seen mixed review on this lens as well
Most lenses get mixed reviews, including the T2875. Look at FM and the numbers are:
Sigma 2470: 107 reviews, 85% recommended, 8.8 build, 9.4 price rating, 8.3 overall.
Tamron 2875: 161 reviews, 86% recommended, 8.0 build, 9.2 price rating, 8.6 overall.
Seem fairly mixed for both and fairly close overall one to another. My findings are basically similar with the optical edge to the Di but most other things to the EX: http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/exvdi
If the OP wants 24mm, get the Sigma; if 28mm is okay, the Tamron is a nice one too (and smaller).

I had it for about a year, and liked it alot. ultimately, i sold it to get the 24-105 because i realised
1) i want IS,
2) i need primes for the low light stuff, 2.8 just wasnt cutting it and,
3) for general shooting, i dont actually need 2.8 for what I do, since 99% of the time, i dont need to freeze motion (hence the preference for IS over f stop).
the only real gripe i had was the 82mm diameter which means buying filters will put another hole in your pocket.

For the cash, the Sigma is awesome.
It is a little noisey on the AF, but it is great.
Get it, and if you don;t like it, sell it.

I had one for a couple years and it worked very very well. I only went with the 24-105 to get the extended range.

How much better would anyone rate the Tamron 28-75 f2.8?
