Well ive finnaly decided to move to the dark side :p
I am getting rid of my Olympus E330 (And accesories) and buying a Canon 400D. I use it mainly for Emergency Service Photography (Motor Vehicle Accidents, Fires, Fire Apparatus, Police Vehicles, etc, etc) however also use it for general happy snaps from time to time. I was wondering how this combo looks???

Welcome to POTN.
That set up should get you up and running quite well as all are competent in their price range, especially for the type of photography you described.
At some point you may wish to try other lenses but you have to start somewhere and that is as good a starting point as any.

The 17-85 lens is a honey. I use mine all the time. It is really versatile. I think it's the best "walk around" lens out there. The 580 flash is great. I don't know about the 70-300 as I've never used it.
