Here is another set of shots from the lagoons. These are much more reasonable crops (~40% of full frame).
Sigma 50-500mm @500mm on Manfroto tripod. I hadn't noticed that my Flash batteries had died while I was shooting these shots. Sadly I got no catchlight in the eye. :(
Just the same these are my best Spotted sandpiper shots to date.

Nice captures of a bird I have yet to see..that I am aware of anyway ;). Well done Stephen.

Wow Stephen, very nice. Judging by the size of the stalks, this guy is very small. About sparrow size? I'm always shocked by how small they are in real life since you can't really tell by a picture. :)

i like the first one best. that stick makes a nice frame over his head. even w/out flash, great shots!! and u can always paint in some catchlights in the eyes j/k

Thanks very much Ted and Downy. The bird had arched his wings even higher over his back just before the last shot but I missed that pose.
