I have a powershot a-70 and today I had a problem. I am using rechargable batteries. Yestreday when I was using my canon a-70 batteries dead and the a-70 shutdown itself while ı was taking a photo. L The lens reamined open. I took out the batteries and recharged them. After recharging 14-16 hours I install the batteries today but my a-70 seems not working. When ı push the on/off button it only blinks green light few times and stop ant my a-70 does not work. Its lens remain open and I cannot do anything. I also change the battery with regular ones and did the samething. What can be the problem? How I can solve it?. Thank you in advance.

You could try resetting the camera (see the manual on proceedure), but more than likely it needs a trip to the repair depot. It could be a plethora of causes, and only opening up the camera could deduce the true cause and failure of the camera.
Hopefully it's under warranty (not dropped, water damaged...)

Does it say E-18 in the corner?
In that case, it's service...

Try removing lithium battery for one minute, and reinsert it. Then put AA batteries and power on a70[/list]

I took out the memory card and reinstall it. My a-70 worked suddenly without pushing the on/off button. It closed itself. Thank you for your immediate responses. Have a nice day.

That's what I was going to recommend you do
Glad you got it up and running again.

I have been having this EXACT same problem for days now. I just took my cf card out & hopefully that will work. Did you do anything other than take it out & put it back in?

You are fortunate to have the A70 because you don't really need rechargeables at all! Try putting a set of alkalines in there and see how many photos you get. Would you believe 500? That's if you don't leave the LCD display constantly on; it still shows the photo just taken for reviewing it. You'll probably get 200 photos even if you use the LCD all the time.
An article I read recently says that this camera gets about five times as many photos on a set of alkalines than the nearest competitor! I can believe it, from my experience with my A70.

Greetings,
I just joined this evening to find out an answer to our uncooperative A70. After reading this thread I tried the memory card trick, and it's now working! Thanks to all, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
