My Cousin on Prom day.

It was actually a sad day. She had to go through all of the Prom affairs after finding out her Grandmother passed away.

C&C please!

I had to deal with all the women in the family, and every time I spoke up about posing, they ignored me.

I warned them about the second one. I told them the shadows from the leaves would look no good. Did they listen? No!

But I still think it turned out okay. Not great, just okay.

Beautiful cousin :) You are right though...about the spotty leaves casting shadows..also the background is a bit busy in the second photo. You may of wanted to throw that background out of focus, first could use a fill flash, but great job!

Thanks! I was actually did use the fill in the first, but I dont' think it was strong enough.

The second one I tried to get the fill flash to cancel out the shadows, but I'm not so sure that's possible :)

Good suggestion on the background, I am going to try and do that tonight.

I am not sure what lens you used for these shots, but you have an awesome portrait lens in your arsenal. Looking at the light setup you had to deal with, I would have opted to shoot in open shade, always keeping in mind whats behind my subject. rack it out at 200mm @ F2.8. An off camera flash with a shoot through umbrella is icing on the cake.

Thanks DCM, it was actually the standard Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 II lens that I used. I thought about using the 200mm F2.8 but if I did I would have to step back further and the other family members would have gotten in the way.

I have never been pushed around so much by family then I was trying to get these shots lol.

I was unable to blur the background last night, but I am going to try and do that tonight.
