Has anybody out there converted their digital files to slides? If so, how did you do it and how did the results turn out?

First of all, there aren't too many companies that offer this service. I've seen a couple of samples, and I was not very impressed. Most companies with a film recorder will go a good job with business graphics (like a Powerpoint presentation), but a high-res photo is likely to be rendered from a medium-res view. It may still be better than nothing, but don't expect the world from it if your digital image has a lot of fine detail.
I did an experiment one time. I took a perfect Velvia slide and scanned it into a digital file that was 120MB. The graphics company took that file and produced a slide that looked OK. Then I compared that slide with the original Velvia slide, and it didn't look worth a damn.

It depends on the company. We have one here in the UK that not only does a good job but also happens to be one of the cheapest around.
The first batch I sent them as a test included one that was a cropped D30 image, maybe 2Mp in size, which I entered in our Camera Club competition and won a Seal of Merit. Two others from the batch were "close but no cigar".
The judge closed the evening by expressing his pleasure at visiting a club which still had so many slide shooters, despite the rapid takeup of digital. I took great pleasure in telling him that he'd just given a Seal of Merit to a 2Mp digital image ;-)

Hi Chris,
Would that company be Microquiz by any chance?
10 out of 10, Barry!
If you haven't actually used them (yet) they are;
cheap - £1.25/slide,
fast - I haven't waited than 4 days from posting a CD to receipt of the slides,
pleasant to deal with - when I phone up to pay ;-)
good quality - I had one test shot done to colour match and when I'd finished with it I opened it to see what film they used, Provia 100F no less.
I'm very happy with their service, as are several friends I've pointed their way.
