Thanks guys.

I will sleep with it under my pillow as tonight is our first night together!!!

On a serious note: When you put it on high speed shooting mode it sounds like a self loading pistol going off !! (I played it to a mate over the car phone today!!!!) It really is much noisier (real BLING!!!!!)

(NOW SOLD THE 10D :()

Wasn't there once a thread called : "Your camera sure takes good pictures" (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25964)

This whole thread reminds me of that.

My opinion is that YOU took nice pictures, the camera helping a bit...

Thanks people for your kind words...!

I used my 70-200mm F2.8 L IS and 1.4x Mk2 converter

A Question then....

I am fairly new to wildlife pics - where is a good market to sell them? I have contacts for aircraft mag's but need some outlet for the 1D to help pay for it!!! :)

Beautiful!

I'll never get pictures like that with my 300D.

ron chappel

You bet the 300D can get pics like that! :D :D
You'll just get a whole lot more duds is all , because of the slower focus

Alan, can you tell us how much that last pic was cropped and at what iso it was taken at?
From the demo images i've seen from the mkII it seems to have lower(?) noise than the 10D

This is the full frame verison (1/4 the original size) with nothing done to it.

I must admit I didn't actually manipulate it particularly well.

I would try contacting a few bird or wildlife magazines and offer
them the pics. They USUALLY have set amounts they will offer you
but it's negotiable. You can put a "watermark" on them and send
a few samples to the magazines. I think they are great shots and
you would get a reaction sending them for review.

There are places that buy "stock" photography but you don't get much.
You can also set up your own web page and try selling them, the more
you display the better chance of a sale. You'ld be surprised at how
many people are "looking" on the net to purchase photos for whatever
project they are working on.

Good pics! and good luck!

The owls are fantastic, really good.

The lanner falcon however...... please tell me that was one of many attempts. Don't tell me you nailed the shot first time..... ( I know how quick they are on the flat and level...!!)

Yes, here's the proof that you can make photos of the same subject with a 10D! http://jesper.fotopic.net/p5275877.html

(the only difference is that in my case the owl was sitting still....)

Very good pictures,

I am waitng for a call back to tell me they have a MK2 in stock - Probably late July and then I will probably buy it because, compared to my D30

1) more pictures will be in focus in situations like the owl.

2) you will get more pictures anyway in the same situation, so you will have a better chance of a good one.

3) the extra pixels 8.3m over 3.1m means that you can crop much more easily.

4) there is much less noise at higher ISO

So I guess you have convinced me - when I go bankrupt I am blaming you and these pictures!

I know what you mean about the shutter - I played with the demo camera at Focus and nearly dropped it! I just barely brushed the shutter button and it rattled off half a dozen shots. If it was film this camera would shoot out a whole roll of 36 in less than 5 seconds!

I have one question - are these pics straight from camera or did you USM them a bit?

I can't even see the fishing wire the owl's suspended on.

What's the lens?

oops - oh yeah - 'with nothing done to it' so no USM then i guess.

You would think that an alleged photographer would be more observant

Thanks again for the comments. Believe it or not, the lanner falcon was just after the owl in the demo and was literally my 30th frame with the 1Dmk2!

All with the 70-200mm F2.8 L IS.

Cheers

Everyone agrees these are just awesome shots - and a great motivator for those of us new to the camera. Can you share with us the camera set-up used when these were taken? And also, a recap of your post-processing workflow and tools?

Some of this is really new to many of us and aside from the "try a bunch of settings and see what works" method, seeing examples and settings info from GREAT images on working cameras does help us get our bearings.

Thanks in advance..

Thanks for the comments.

Lazy - if you go to the pbase link you can view all the info on each picture.

With regard to the processing - I use Adobe Photoshop CS with the RAW2 plug in. I tend to use a minimal amount of sharpening (less than 85% and less than 0.7 radius and 0 threshold)

For these I also adjusted the levels and used the curves function. Selective colour was also used slilghtly.

That's about it!

Cheers
