Would you say the 24-70L and 70-200L is ideal for a crop camera or would you skip the 35-70 range and substitute in the 16-35L for the 24-70L

I'd get the 17-55 IS and the 70-200 IS.

24mm is not wide enough on a crop body. Go for the 17-55mm.

everyone's definitino of walk around is different. In my opinion for a cropper, the 10-22 and 17-55 make a good walk around combo for me. I have the 70-200 f/2.8 IS and I can't imagine walking around with that thing around my neck.

For me 24mm isn't long enough for a crop body to walk around with.. I'm putting up with it at the moment as I'm gunning for a 5d/1D at the end of the year and I suspect 24mm on full frame will be more than ample... Something wide and something long generally seems to be the best combination.

Another vote for 24mm not being wide enough. Money is no object kit would be the17-55 IS paired with the 70-200 IS. A good, lower priced option would be the 17-85IS paired with the 70-300IS.

For a crop camera I'd say that the 17-55 is a must and depending on which you prefer, wide or tele, pair it up with either the 10-22 or a 70-200.

My 10-22 and 24-70 are ideal for walkaround lenses, IMHO.
It all depends on your shooting style.

That's what I have.... I am happy with it. At some point will add a UWA, but I currently don't feel I am missing anything without the 17-23 range.
If you have the kit, walk around for a while and never go below 24, that will show you if it is wide enough for you or not.

17-55mm and 30mm f/1.4 only because I never have a use for telephoto but love being able to shoot in low light.

I'd go with 17-55ish 2.8 and a 135/2

I like the 10-22 and 70-200 f4 IS. I find that I don't even miss the range in between. If i know I'll be indoors/in low light situations I swap out the long zoom for the 17-55 IS.

Whats "wide" enough for one isnt always "wide" enough for someone else. You have to figure out if
1- you want "wide" shots
2- If so, how wide
3- 24mm wide enough for you?
IF 24mm is, then the 24-70mm focal range will be your best bet.
IF you want wider then the UWA would be the 10-22mm, next the 14-17 range, then...well its trivial past 24mm.
To have "reach" the 70-200mm is nice, maybe even the 70-300 could be a little better, again depends on how far you want the "reach" to be.
My setup (even on a crop body) will/is the 24-70L (own) + 70-200L, both f/2.8. To me walkaround has more to do with handling changing lighting conditions rather than distances. Its up to you really. Just my 50 cents worth (yeah the price has gone up a bit....due to gas prices:p )

This might come as a shock but on a budget the 17-85 F4-5.6 IS is not a bad compromise.

My ideal 2 lenses for APS-C dSLR on vacation... 15-70 f/2.8 IS and 50-150 f/2.8...
...same as 24-110mm and 80-240 on a 35mm film camera. For my OM-4 I would bring a 28-200mm travel zoom backed up with a 24mm lens since I think 28mm is not wide enough for the sights indoors in Europe.

I can't ! :(
If I had FF dSLR, I can't find a 24-105 f/2.8 either!

My travel kit, for a 20D, is a Sigma 17-70 and a Tokina 80-400 ATX-D.

Best quality/Money is no concern: Canon EF-S 17-55 + Canon 70-200L f4 IS (because the 70-200L f2.8 IS version is too heavy to carry around a lot)
Best value/middle of the road budget: Sigma 17-70 + Canon 70-300IS (another alternative for quite similar price is Canon 70-200L f4 non-IS, depending on what is most important to you: aperture and L or else range and IS, because IQ quality in itself is dead equal to me)
Best value/budget: Sigma 17-70 (or if tight budget then keep the 18-55 kit lens) + Sigma 70-300 APO newest version.

I'm using the 5D, 35L, 135L, 2xII and 220ex as my travel kit and I would not have any concerns about switching to the 10D.

I think the 24-105 f/4L IS and 70-200 f/2.8L IS are the perfect kit for me. Unless you have a lot of landscape work, 24mm is wide enough to do family portraits in a small room(relatively small, I mean if you have 15 people, the room probably won't be that small), etc. Most point-n-shoots start out at about 35mm, and 24mm is about 38mm equiv. on a 1.6 fovcf sensor.
These are wonderful for family portrait/event type photography. I have never needed to go wider when walking around with my 24-105, but have often wanted more reach. Hence, my next zoom was the 70-200. Then later I added the 1.4X and 2X extenders to really expand my reach.
The perfect kit for one is not always the perfect kit for another.

I paired up a 10-22 with my 24-70 and it works well enough for my style of shooting.

10-22mm with 24-70/28-75 is a fantastic pair for vacations, emphasizing more of the ultrawide end than the tele end of my previous 15-70 f/2.8 IS and 50-150 f/2.8 dream combo.
I find the 84 degree AOV of 15mm (APS-C) or 24mm (35mm SLR) is a terrific width to be 'stuck with' at the widest

I use a 17-40 f4'L' and a 70-200 f4'L' meets most needs, and picture quality is superb

I'd get the 17-55 IS and the 70-200 IS.
I agree 100%
I think the 24-70 is a bit too big for a walk around lens, IMO.

My favorite combination is 35L & 85.8.
However, sometimes I would pick 17-55 IS and 85.8 or 17-55 IS and 70-200 IS.

I use the 24-105 as my primary 'every day' lens and take either the 16-35 or 70-200 as the second lens depending on the needs that particular day. You cant go wrong with any of the lenses you are suggesting.
