So I am thinking of signing up for Zenfolio to share my photos. Only I am not a pro photogrpaher and want to use it to store my collection of birthdays, parties and various events and share with friends..
But here is my question. How do you organize with zenfolio? Is it similar to folders in windows?
So can I have say a folder "2007" then under that have "birthdays" "parties" and then have the various parties by date and name under that?
I think that is th ebest way to organize the photos, is by year right? Any tips from you guys that already have a lot of photos?
*EDIT* Oh and also can I password protect each "folder" assuming that what I said above is possible. Because I am thinking of having a friend use it with me. So I want to have two seperate titles when people log in. One under my name and one under his, whcih then leads to our respective pages...

I have been looking various sites as I am also looking to set up an account somewhere and Zenfolio is one of the ones I have been looking at. From what I can tell looking at various peoples accounts It looks like you can have main folders with sub folders inside that, not sure how far you can go down but from what I have seen you can have a main then various sub folders in that one. I know you can password protect and assume it can be at sub folder level.
If you go to their sign up page it goes give quite a good tour of what you can do, should answer a few of your questions

You can't make a folder inside of a folder. Other than that Zenfolio rocks! Check out my site! Use Referral Code: 5PJ-NV1-68U and get $5 off. Thats only $35 / year, unlimited storage.

Zenfolio offers you a free trial (i think for 10 days or more) and from what I remember, you don't even need to hand over your credit card details. Its definitely worth it.
Play around and see if it works for you. Personally I moved from Smugmug to Zenfolio this year, simply because many of Smugmugs features i wasn't using, and I got a hell of o lot more with Zen for much less in price.
Sign up and start playing around, if you like it its worth using the code lghtning4u has mentioned.

Yes you can do it, you have to setup a gallery and they you can have sub folders within there. You can see my account to see how I have a few of mine. Zenfolio is a great site I am enjoying my account. Here is my code to save 5.00 Q1C-UW2-JBQ

thanks guys. I just signed up. I didnt use any of your codes because I already found another one before checking this thread.
Zenfolio is great and I love it. Except for one BIG thing. No comments!! I feel it enhances the whole experience so much more when you have your friends and family leave you comments on the pics. I know they said they are working on it but I am not sure if it will be completed in time for the summer, which sucks.

Glad you joined. You won't be dissapointed.
Leave them a question in their contact form regarding when they will have commenting available. I'll bet they will give you an answer, and a quick one at that. They have been very open to some of the questions I've posed to them.

I actually tried Smugmug, paid for it, and discovered Zenfolio the next day.
Got my money back from Smugmug, and never looked back. The big thing about Smugmug is the lack of a traditional Gallery -> Sub-gallery organization.
Zenfolios interface is awesome (esp. the upload). The also let me point use my domain. I love everything, and have really only minor complaints:
1. No commenting (maybe they will add this soon?)
2. Top level "Folder" graphic is kinda ugly (they call them groups)
3. No drag and drop for ordering, but still easy enough

1. No commenting (maybe they will add this soon?) They keep saying very soon. Actually, it looks like every quarter or so they have had some updates, therefore I would think within the next month or so, we may see something.
2. Top level "Folder" graphic is kinda ugly (they call them groups) I agree, but did you know you can also add a thumbnail of any image on your site to any folder to make it look a bit better?
3. No drag and drop for ordering, but still easy enough. Send them a comment to request this. They have been very receptive to feature requests, which is one of the reasons I like Zen so much.
I can't say enough good things about Zenfolio. I'm glad smugmug gave you your money back. That says a lot about their customer focus. Too bad their pro level account is so expensive.

The comments feature I am sure will be in their next release...........I would not let that prevent anyone for signing up for the best value in photo sharing on the net right now - Zenfolio.
