I'm having a color issue with my Camera. I'm shooting
sports pics with Purple Jerseys. They come out Blue.
I have tried the different wb settings with no fix. Canon
support suggested using the custom setting. I did that
with a white card and got the same results. I'm shooting
in Raw mode, ISO 50. Any one else encounter this?
Any other suggestions. It's a lot of PS coloring to fix
my pics.

thanks in advance.

There is definitely a problem with certain purple shades as you have found and it is well documented in this forum if you care to search. But I don't think that you will find an easy solution, just confirmation of the problem.

You may find that if you do a hue shift on the BLUES or MAGENTAS using PS with the HUE/SATURATION control and save the setting you could apply it to all the relevant images which might save your having to judge the correction on each shot.

You may like to look at Picture Window Pro which is a 16 bit editor and has a really excellent colour correction tool. It is a relatively small program and you can download a trial version which is only about 3MB.

I don't believe the white-balance settings have any effect in RAW mode. In RAW mode, the camera operates on the assumption that white-balance correction will be done in post-processing. The Canon File Viewer utility, for example, allows you to pick a white-balance setting when converting from CRW to TIFF or JPG. More sophisticated software allows you to select a section of the picture that should be white, and adjusts everything else to match.

Have you tried shooting a few JPGs of the purple jerseys with different white-balance settings? Do the JPGs have weird colors too?

Also note that the image a G3 displays immediately after taking a picture in RAW mode isn't the RAW picture, it's a low-res JPG version - pay no attention to the color balance on the LCD when shooting RAW.

I don't know what os you are using. I have windows 2000 and found that I have to turn color management off and discard the embeded profile in order to get acurate color. If I leave the embeded profile in place I get huge color shifts when I open images in photoshop. If I don't color manage at all I get fairly consistient color.

I'm shooting raw mode. I convert it to .tif and open
the pics in Photoshop LE. I then use the colorize function
in hue/sat to change the wrong color... which is quite
tedious for the amount of pics I have. I haven't
tried shooting in jpg format. I can try that.

On the hue shift .. how do you do that?

Also, how to turn off color management and remove the
embedded profile?

One last note: If I use flash wb setting in the file viewer
my Jerseys come out in the proper shade of purple,
but the rest of the pic has a yellow/orange tint. I didn't
use flash when I took the photos tho.

The purple colour shift will still be there. So unfortunately this will not help.
On the hue shift .. how do you do that?
I am not familiar with PS LE but I would have thought the HUE/SATURATION control should be the same as PS.
In the dialogue there is a pull down menu headed "EDIT:" which allows you to select a colour range. This enables you to change the hue etc. of a limited range of colours. This range can be adjusted manually until it covers exactly the range that you require. DO NOT check the colorize box. You can then continue in the way that I described in my previous post.

Thanks... The Hue/Sat works well. Not real familiar
with the image menu functions yet.
Also, Still don't understand
the color management/embedded profile item mentioned
in one of the post... any additional help here would be
appreciated.

One more question. In the File View preferences...
what value is recommended for the output resolution?
The default is 180.

If you have Photoshop CS or can try it out try varying the color temperature settings.
