As they build Lancaster's burley new civic center, facades are removed along with buildings that were built against buildings. And abruptly Mr. A.S. Groff's sign was revealed just as clear as it must have looked a cemtury and a half back when Mr. And Mrs. A.S. Groff looked up there at their dreams of success. Look how their hope glimmers in May's golden twilght.http://homepage.mac.com/byrneprintmaker/.Pictures/LancasterCityGallery/groffhardware_srgb_web.jpg

I love local history. As a resident, it must be pretty neat to see old layers appear again. As for the photo, I think I would rather see the real thing. This looks a bit too...cartoonish for my taste. The OOF chain link fence is pretty cool. I didn't see it until just now.

Thanks Stefan. Actually I was going for a painterly effect here. There's something particularly romantic about someone's hopes - as in this sign - coming back to life. Given the golden glow of the setting sun and the partial rubble of the construction, I want the whole thing to be held together by other-wordly colors and softness.
But... the thing about tastes is that they are as personal as... as... a strangely unfaded sign from a century and a half that reveals along-ago taste in advertising.
