I miss seeing all his photos!
I realize there was a debocle over in the wedding photography forum, but I hope that has not driven Jason out of POTN.
We miss you Jason! Come back!

Well, I read all the hub-bub and there was really no clue as to why he (possibly) left. There was an possible issue of confidentiality, which has always been a interesting question of mine. If this is the case, I'd love to hear about it... something we could all learn from. If this was the case, I'd like to hear his side of the story. I hope this was not the issue.

I kidnapped him and am holding him in a cell until he gives me all his secrets on photography.
Actually I have no clue what you all are talkin about regarding the "Wedding Forum Debocle!!!!", so Ill just chalk it up as him being busy.

I worked with Jason recently and can say that Jason has decided to take a break from this forum after being involved in some threads that seemed to me to get away from being nice.
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=264877&page=2
All I will say is that I've worked with Jason on his invitation to allow me to expand my skill set. He was more than happy to share his skills and experience as well as showing more than a passing interest in my developing skills.

wardie, I'd love for Jason to come back. I certainly hope that whoever was involved can sort their differences out. I have learned so much from Jason and am just itching to see some of his new material.

Wow thats pretty insane. It seems as if alot of people, long time members and new members, feel they know what the 'perfect' lighting is, 'perfect' composition is, 'perfect' technique is, and if it doesnt match their techniques then its wrong or at the very least 'not done correctly'.
I had several photography magazine covers that had what alot around here would call 'distracting' features. Hot spots, stray hairs, odd composition etc etc, yet theyre on the cover of a magazine, getting paid, and getting exposure.
Like Jason, some of the best around here get critiqued for those little 'distracting' flaws.
Yet they are successful in what they do, so why is it those 'distracting' flaws are getting them a strong following?Hmmmmmmm?:D Maybe because even to the best out there, they arent 'distracting'. :-O:)
Id like to see Jason back, show us some of the new stuff hes been up to:D

I just read through the drama, all kinda funny really, but then life is generally....
He's good, he knows it, we know it.
I can understand a professional not wanting any public negative feedback, afterall it's their living, but I think Mr Cole's work has nothing to sweat about.
I am grateful to all the professionals and experienced amateurs for their work being posted, whatever reasons they do it for, I have learned shed loads from looking and reading the critiques. That includes yours Jason (hey that's my name too btw)
So from one Jason to another, get yer arse back in here and show me how it should be done hey... err please ;)

I have seen more then a few real pros get chased off this forum... and those that are left are sharing a lot less. All because a bunch of wannabes with over priced gear think they have made it big. A real bummer, but I am not surprised in the least.

I'm missin' JC over here big time as well. He was my inspiration to start shooting models, and has given me great tips that I now live by. It was sad to see how so many jumped on him in that thread, and I can understand why he would leave POTN because of that.
Its always the same people who always seem to give him a hard time.
Im hoping that he will eventually come back, because its obvious that he has a pretty strong following here...... and we aren't afraid to admit it either ;)
just my 2cents.

Thanks Wardie for shedding some light on why JC might not be posting. LOL bcap, I like it. I'm one of the many photographers that Jason has helped, allowing me to ask those beginner questions that we all have had and answering without making me sound stupid for not knowing in the first place. This is not my first forum rodeo so I knew going into this that there would be those that post negative stuff just to be an a***ole. I hope that Jason can look past those that want to disrupt (even if they are "gold members" or some other megaposter moniker that's just a tad short on talent) and come back to those that appreciate his work and come here to learn.

Wow, I certainly missed all of that first time round...rather sad really. Jason - I'm not sure where some people are getting the arrogant bit from, but you're alright by me mate, and damn well you're good with the photography :) Would be nice to see you back in here, but I understand if you don't, or want to take a good break from some of the BS that hits these forums from time to time.
On another note, I was appalled by some of the posts that were made by others in the aforementioned links above. I'm not quite sure why the mods didn't remove the posts in question, since they were defamatory in nature, and in reality breaking POTN rules as they were personal attacks. I think some of these guys sounded very jealous in all honesty - Jason consider that a compliment :)
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Guys,
Wow, what can I say. im Speechless. Thank you all so much for your kind words. I knew that some people liked how I helped them but I honestly had no idea I had THIS much impact on people. That's awesome. I feel really good right now ?
Ok to tell you my side of the story. I posted a link in the Wedding forum asking about the right to critique others photos. I don't have any issues with people giving me feedback for a photo if its warranted. Sometimes however people say things about my work and others work that's just plain nasty. Then I look at their work and their work isn't remotely up to scratch, they haven't earned their stripes so in my opinion they don't have the right to critique others as its clear from their own work they don't know what they are doing, so how are they going to show others how to do things? That's my whole point. Nothing more. Then certain people (who yes I agree are most likely jealous) jumped on me like a thousand pound rock. Why? I don't know… so I decided to end my forum days and concentrate on my business and my work and put all this behind me. However I have had quiet a few emails from people asking for help and advice and asking me to come back to the forum so here I am. I don't want to get into the bitch fighting side of things here. I just want to show my work, help other people and we can all get along. Isn't the forum supposed to be fun and a source of inspiration?
With the other thread “Is this art of just a good shot?”.. well in my opinion that was a very fair title for the thread. There is no doubt about it (based on the Wedding couple and the people at the Weddings comments) that it was a good shot. Absolutely no doubt about it, but was it art? Did the large amount of grass make it more artistic or distracting? That was my question. Some people say im cocky and confident, maybe I am, but then maybe that's one of the ingredients needed to make a successful business. This is the start of my 4th year of Wedding photography (professionally) – 3 years clicked over on the second of February (my birthday) and I now have over 100+ Weddings booked (still to go) as well as shooting regularly for several of the biggest magazines in the country. So maybe being a little cocky and confident is a good thing… another thing i am particularly proud about is even with the success I have had, I never once EVER turned down a request for help. Even the most basic questions, I answer with understanding and thought. Nothing worse than asking a question, getting flamed by some bigwig, then never asking a question again. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. I even had a photographer at the lighthouse where I shoot a lot of Weddings, drop and break his camera, no spare, I lent him one of my spares for the whole day and night. Someone I had never met before. I am here to help, I have proved that time and time again. So cut me some slack, and understand that im NOT big noting myself, im NOT full of myself, im just merely trying to show people what you can do if you put your mind to it and are truly passionate about your art. You don't have to always be in a 9-5 job if you don't want to (fine if you do - everyone is different) but if you don't, then im living proof what you can do if you put your mind to it. That's my whole point and reason for being here. I don't want to sit on my perch alone, there is plenty of room here. If I help just ONE person make the jump to a full time career in Photography, then I feel I have achieved my goals here. Enough said.
P.S. Yes I was VERY surprised the moderators didn’t step in when people started attacking me personally too.
P.S.S. Yes im back ? and boy have I shot some cool stuff lately… stay tuned… posting shortly…

Welcome back Jason, it's good to see you posting again. I like your images, I like your posts. You're laid back, nice and always trying to help others. I like that you show shots of you (or your assistant) with the models, enjoying yourselves. That tells me a lot about you in a few glances - you enjoy your photography, you enjoy just simply having a good time. It also tells me that you're not stuckup.
You've started from nothing, worked your way up the ladder, and you've the decency to try and help others. Sure, you're proud of your work, which serious photographer isn't? My personal point of view is that some [others] in those other aforemtentioned threads overstepped the boundaries.
If I'd had a car, I'd have helped out on some of those early morning shoots (public transport and 5am do not go hand in hand lol), just for the chance to meet up with a fellow POTNer, and learn something from a pro. I'm not really a people person, I'm not really a people photographer, but I do want to learn more about this genre of photography, both the technical aspects of it all, and the people side of it. I've learnt a fair bit already from you, and many others in the G&N forums. Sadly, I don't have anyone that wants to model for me, so I just have to watch and mentally learn for now until opportunities present themselves down the track. I'd probably balls up a shoot anyways lol.
Definitley good to see you back here.
Cheers,
Dave

Ah well, sort the business changes out first, get comfortable with it all, get everything up and running as it should, then maybe you can start doing some macro shoots. You'll find the modelling rates for insect and arachnid shots are much cheaper than with human models ;)

Jason, I haven't really been on much laterly, my post count has really suffered. :( But I find I need to take a break and not come on for a few days at a time. I enjoy your work, and if I really felt strongly about something, I usually PM the OP. I'm not that great a photographer YET, and I don't like to post when the OP's picture isn't all that great, but I do find the personal attacks sad. I hope you are going to post some of your new stuff soon.
