It looks like the plant leaf in the foreground tricked the autofocus and locked the focus onto it instead of your grandaughter. She unfortunately, is a bit out of focus.

Thank you for your observation, both the frogs and my granddaughter are not to cooperative as models and a quick snap was all that was possible. I guess there is no way around the auto focus problem except more care at the next opportunity.

They do both tend to hop around :D

One of the things that might help with the focus is to choose your settings with that in mind. Depending upon your camera, you may have an Av setting option. This will allow you to set the aperture on the camera to a fixed setting that will give a greater depth of focus. Otherwise, you can usually set the focus lock by pointing the focus point at your granddaughter, pushing the button 1/2 way down and then moving the camera to compose the shot you want. As long as you keep the button 1/2 down, it will lock the focus at the point you first depressed it regardless of where that may now be in the picture.

Memory shots don't need to be perfect, just special :)

Yes the content of the photo I am very pleased with and one that I will cherish. It does not do any harm to receive constructive criticism though.

I am using a G3 and for the last few months as in this photo I have been shooting everything using the manual settings. I thought this would be a better way of learning. I will try and bear in mind to try a smaller aperture next time.

Yes, that is one great thing about shots like these. They may not win any photography awards because of focus, etc... but they are great shots that you would not trade for anything. You captured her curious look just right. Just wondering... what happened after you took the shot? Did the frogs hop away, or did she chase after them?
