First time using all my new gear in my new makeshift studio.
Would really like to hear what you all think. What's good? What's wrong?

Used two AB800's, 1 softbox and 1 umbrella. Don't have a hair light or background light yet. The 'blotch' on the BG is a worn spot on the sheet I hung as a BG.

Thanks for looking.

Photoshop those white hatches in your background where the color is fading... Draws too much attention.

Were you going for even lighting on these? How far away from the subjects were your lights? I ask as the catchlights in the eye suggest they were fairly distant, which adds dynamics by providing sharper shadows.

Seems like they were properly exposed. Posing kids is always a challenge, but these aren't too bad. The boy seems rather uncomfortable, though I like the playfulness of his expression.

If you have the room, I'd suggest moving the stool further from the background, and moving the lights in closer, with a single softbox as the main light, and the second light as a backlight - perhaps on the floor.

Thanks for the input, sswanson. I tried moving the softbox/mainlight closer, but I got too much of an over exposure on the side of the face nearest the light. I'll try adjusting the light more carefully next time.

I like the idea of using the other light behind the subject and will try that next.

Do you have the ability to torn the power down enough to allow you to properly expose with the softbox up nice and close? I've had a hard time with this on a couple of the studio sets I've used, but only as I wasn't able to get the subject far enough from the background at times. :-)

if you have room, get them away much further away from the backdrop.
