No, not Seattle

It doesn't really look like Seattle to me - but then I'm a Brit, so what do I know!
This location is closer to you than Seattle is.

Roy Mathers

Nope, closer to you than Florida:D

Roy Mathers

I'm assuming that it's in the US? If it is, let's try one of the Carolinas. If it isn't one of the eastern states, there isn't much closer to us than a lot of water!

NOT in the US

Roy Mathers
24th of June 2007 (Sun), 10:40
OK, let's try another tack. If it's closer to us than Seattle is, that more or less narrows it down to Europe - and that statue is the sort of thing that they used to put up in communist states, although the feel of the picture is anything but. I'm intrigued by this and I'm going to have a stab at Germany.

tomd
24th of June 2007 (Sun), 11:38
Germany is pretty big, how about a city? (good stab by the way)

Roy Mathers
24th of June 2007 (Sun), 12:08
My next 'stab' (although I'm not at all confident in this) is what used to be East Germany - let's say Dresden.

Roy, you're gonna get this narrowed way down to the answer and someone else will post the correct spot!

Roy Mathers
24th of June 2007 (Sun), 14:04
Yes, I think you're right Tom, that's what will happen! Still, let's keep trying. This time, simply because the statue looks 'industrial', I'll say somewhere in the Hamburg area.

:o Google search for "nokia timbered" and found it in a blog mentioning the new sign on the old building. And I agree - there should be some better way of showing the names on these buildings.

Are you suggesting that the timbered buildings have been put up since you were there?

tomd

That huge structure on the back (white) is defining, could it be for laying cable?

GeoffSobering
27th of June 2007 (Wed), 09:19
It sure looks like a dredge to me. The Mississippi can get pretty wide in places (ex. Lake Pepin on the Minnesota/Wisconsin border).

There aren't many details visible in the background to try and get a fix on where it could from that. So far, I haven't noticed anything really distinctive about the boat itself. The white structure on the front (photo left) is different from most dredges I've seen, so I'm guessing it's a new(er) unit...

Heheh, still cant believe you went to Dollywood!

??? ??? ??? What's so hard to believe? I was visiting family in Greenville SC and they gave us the tickets for my son's 6th birthday - well, all our birthdays for that year really ;)

The kids loved it - so did we in fact. Thunderhead was great!

It's just Dollywood.. Dolly Parton. Guess it's just me, being a 'city slicker' and all ;)

Thunderhead does look like a great ride though. I love wooden coasters!

Hehe, Thunderhead is brilliant. I've not ridden many coasters but from what I am aware, many people rate it the #1 woodie in the world.

As for the pic, New York?
