A little vague, but in fact, incorrect.
Galveston, Texas?
Nope.
OK time for a clue:
according to a city distance tool I found on the web: the distance from the mystery city to the previous guesses of LA, Seattle and San Diego is within 16 miles of each other. In other words the mystery city is almost exactly the same distance from LA, Seattle and San Diego.
Galveston is the closest guess yet! Eastern seaboard is too general to give a distance reference.

D'oh! Now I really wish I just had a "regular" photo of the silly place...
I'll guess Chicago.
Not exactly; it's in the same section of the country...
Here are some hints:
It's not anywhere near a city ("out in the middle of nowhere" is a pretty good description).
It's in the US midwest.
You can see this place from a commercial airliner at cruising altitude.
The building is named after a famous American and the facility is named for a famous Italian (famous in their field, at least).
Here's a shot of the from the top floor looking down at the entrance area.

Arrgghhh... My brain just can't seem to work correctly today.
I meant to write EAST of Iowa (the "other west"). So sorry.
To compensate, I'll add the clue that the nearby city is Chicago, and the Italian (mentioned above) is perhaps best known for some work he did there in a squash court.

How did you work that out Lonnie?
I Googled "Wyland murals". One of the links I found listed a bunch of his murals with a small thumbnail picture of each one. None of the thumbnails looked like Scorpio's picture, so I just went down the line clicking on each one. Doing that opened up Microsoft's Live Search showing a full view of it. A few clicks later I found the match...
So, should I wait for Scorpio to confirm I'm right, or just go ahead and post the next picture? He's in Hawaii, so he still has a few hours before he wakes up, I'd imagine.

Fiendishly clever. I also Googled 'Wyland murals' but didn't get as far as you did!
It did take some work. None of the results on the first page Google returned helped, so I switched to an image search instead. Still couldn't find it there, but I clicked some links on a page I found in there and somehow found the path that eventually led me to that site with the thumbnails.
Anyway, I guess we'll wait for Scorpio to make it official. The server that controls our Internet access here at work crashed right after I posted my last message. I can only get in via my cell phone right now. I have something ready to go for when I'm back online, though...

:D Good one Lonnie. Look forward to seeing what you post later after the confirmation. I might have to hold back from guessing for a while - I don't have many more useable shots!
Bit of a pain about the server though :(

I just got back from the cafeteria and it looks like they fixed the server problem already. We're back up...
Don't be afraid to guess, Mark. If you get it right and don't have anything to post, just say it's free for anyone else to take. They do that in the Super Macro Guessing Game thread all the time.

OK...I'm done thinking. Too late for the last two pic's.
That Wyland was great. I know he is/was working on a whaling wall in each of the 50 states. Once upon a time I thought about trying to photo each of the 50. I thought it would give me a reason to travel and see the countty. Well, kids came along now I go to Disney World and water parks.

Disney and Water parks are much more fun than photographing some buildings...
Thank God for kids... They give us an excuse to act like one!

I've been to all fifty of the states - and I didn't have Wyland as an excuse:D

I've been to the 48 contiguous states, 18 countries, and 3 continents. Can't wait to add to the list. I LOVE travelling!

Well, that was fast... :( I really thought it would take a little longer than that.
You're up, Roy.

I didn't have to do any detective work - I've been to Tombstone three times, the last visit being six weeks ago:lol:
Here's the next one...

Well, I wish I'd known that. I would have gone with my second choice instead...
Are the streets in the old section of town still "unpaved"? I've been there twice. The first time was in October, 2003, and they were all just normal paved roads. I went back in September, 2005 to find that they had just unpaved the roads a week earlier by covering them with red gravel and closing everything to vehicle traffic.

Yes, they've left them unpaved and closed to traffic - and they have the OK re-enactment in the main street every day. To create more tourism, presumably.

Are the rock climbers in Nevada?
I think it's too red & jagged for half dome.
