I'll be glad to, however, per our recent "Rules" discussion, we need to wait for Tsk1979 to verify the answer that's been given 3 times now. And he has until 09:00 PM EST to do so... But I am ready, I uploaded a few location shots to my photobucket last night. (I had to pass twice already in this game, I don't want that happening again!)

Well I went to flickr and searched for Big jesus statue.

As for Gibraltar, I just did a sea runway search on images.google.com, and voila somebody's Gibraltar gallery came up!

ok, I'm going to jump out on a ledge here and guess that this is a War Memorial in the USA. It looks like there are 5 slabs, one for each branch of the Armed Forces. But as for which small town in America this monument calls home... I'll Guess Sturges, ND.

Roy Mathers
10th of July 2007 (Tue), 15:38
Actually, SoccerRef, if you look closely you'll see seven slabs - but you're right in principle, it is War Memorial. However, it isn't Sturges (or North Dakota). What made you think that - was it just a stab in the dark?

Hmmm.. No Maple-Leaf flag (maybe behind a tree?)

Looks like a US and MIA flags on the two flag-poles, so I'd guess it's somewhere in the USA.

I'd be interested to see how tsk's detective skills fare on this one!

Actually I saw the seven slabs, but one of them looks to be an informational slab, and one looks to be very full. Thus I figured one branch has two slabs, and the informational slab doesn't count.

Sturges was my guess because I just heard a friend telling me of a Memorial in Sturges that has representation for each branch of the service...

ummm. recap: It's probably easterly of Minnesota
it is some kind of militray memorial.

I see 7 or 8 large stone slabs,
The symbol on one slab has 5 "branches" probably signifing the 5 wings of the armed forces.
The black smaller flag looks very much like a missing in action flag.

I'll be a little premature in my congratulations tkindler... But WELCOME to the game.

I WAS Winthrop about 28 years ago, so when I saw 76 Trombones as the clue, I got excited and posted my answer... Then confidently went to lunch and then about the middle of my hamburger realized I hadn't confirmed it by looking it up. (Then again I had someone waiting to go to lunch, so it wouldn't have been to good to leave them waiting while I tried to figure it out.)

Anyway, congrats... Can't wait to see what you post. (As soon as Roy confirms you're correct, of course.)

Roy Mathers

Yes, of course tkindler is correct. Actually it's not only the birthplace of Meredith Willson, composer of 'The Music Man' but Mason City is, in fact, the 'River City' of the show and has a wonderful museum all about the show. I have a special side interest as I was musical director of a production of the show in the Uk a couple of years ago. I would liked to have seen you as Winthrop, SoccerRef?

We are posting our own image. Sometimes the detective in us must do research via google images or other search (flicker) to help us try to identify someone elses posted picture.

We might identify a portion of the picture (flag, license plate, etc) that helps us narrow the scope/location.

Does that help?

Maybe I should have said, "... closer than any guess so far, but you're in the wrong state.

how about the Ron Jon surf shop in Florida, I think it's in Cocoa Beach?

There is a few guys with surf boards and there is surf board decor on the walls. Maybe a training or practice facility.....

Wrong Direction from Texas... However, Yes, they are using surf boards of a sort (they are actually much smaller than surf boards, but the same shape).

AND Yes, it is a type of "training" facility.

Wavehouse, San Diego?

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a WINNER!

I found it rather odd that the health club and fitness center located right on the beach (literally 10 behind me is sand and 200 feet further is the Pacific Ocean) needs a man made wave machine! And I quickly discovered as I walked up and down the beach, that every other bar, hotel, etc. has one.

Anyway, Congratulations Roy, You've won again!!

By the way, how'd you find it?

Your clue about being smaller versions of surf boards was a great help, as I knew of the existence of boogie boards - and I thought they fitted the bill. Then after digesting the fact that you said that Florida was the wrong direction from Texas, I started going the other way and I thought it highly unlikely that there would be such establishments in New Mexico or Arizona (the lack of a coastline makes it difficult:lol: ) so I started looking in California, and San Diego seemed the most likely. So I concentrated my search there and the rest, as they say, is history!

A pic will follow in ten or fifteen minutes.

Mount Shasta? I can't really tell from my own pictures. Mine were shot from a distance, so I can't see details. It doesn't look anything like my pictures of Mount Hood, though.

Was I at least thinking of the right range? Is it in the Cascades? Ranier, maybe?

My guess would be Mt. Ranier. It looks like the Northwest US to me.
