I'm not sure, either! A lot of brown!
If the pen is the subject, then we should see more of it, & maybe a more dramatic shadow would help. Maybe it needs a broader white highlite.
If the subject the signature, then it should be sharp.

The subject is the signature. The pencil is just there to make the pic a little more interesting. The brown is actually on purpose.... I was trying to capture it as I saw with with my eyes: lit only by a desk lamp.
I kind of agree with you though, it should be a little sharper (the signature)

I wonder if it might be better with the tail-end of a letter in the upper portions. Out of focus so it's not readable. Just something to break up the brownscape - but still in context. I like the pen. And yes, I think the signature needs to be sharp.

I like the idea,
how abour having the subjext "signature"in "diagonale"while half or almost half of the pen kind of parallel to one side or, maybe, crossin the writing
just a thought
