It's on the way. The order is being picked as I type this. I should have it Friday if UPS cooperates. CDW came through as they said they would. They were initially told by Canon that they would get cameras May 10. Then, because of the huge buying frenzy were left out in the cold by Canon missing the first shipment, though rumors do say they sent out a handful of pre-paid cameras.

At that time (May 6-7) Mike told me it'd then be 2-3 weeks. It wasn't even 10 days later and now it's finally coming home to me!!! And I'm going out on a shoot this weekend too! Man, I won't even have time to charge the batteries and will probably have to use the 10D.

But, the 10D got me 4 full-spread shots and a cover so I guess I can't bitch too much eh?

There is nothing mysterious about the camera. It's all just different. You'll find it a little tricky getting used to the button combinations. I think Canon does that on purpose to keep the camera from getting into hand of people with a proclivity for 'chimping'. It is professional equipment after all.

Well...I am going to a boat race this weekend too. Planned on shooting it with the 10D, which I will probably have to do anyway. How long does it take to first-time charge a battery? And yes, I know the 3x refresh/charge that you're supposed to do, and that's fine, but not sure I'll have time to do a full routine the first time around. Not to mention I'll be green as hell. So the 10D will probably be the prime camera and then I'll play a bit with the MKII if I have time to fully charge one battery.

I'll only have about 10-15 hours depending on when UPS shows up Friday. Once they show up, it's throw the box in the car and head down the road.

Go ahead and charge the battery (ies) and use it (them). Before you charge them again, do the refresh thing. Supposedly if you do that the first three times you charge them, you'll get the desired affect. You don't have to do it three times before using them, however.

How long to charge? I have a converter for the car. Maybe I can charge one on the way there.

I'm not sure how far back now I am from Jim & Mills, but I downloaded the 1DmkII Users Manual last week and have been studying it a little every night now so I can be adepth in its use when it gets here. Heck, I even ordered an extra charger and battery this week so I can start shooting as soon as I get it!

Any help appreciated! ! ! I'm going to check my Discover Card again tomorrow for a charge.

Well, my shoot is actually Saturday. Friday will be cram night (RTFM) and battery charging night. I'm just going to set the camera up with the Sports Illustrated settings, and a few minor changes, and run with that. I'll post some photos here on Saturday night after we get back home and then a full gallery some time on Sunday.
