My Mark III 3 hours old straight from the battery charger :)
Impressions?
*** Very fast and accurate AF
*** Wow! 10fps? Are you kidding me :) Totally unreal
*** Not bulky at all and I'm coming from a D2XS
*** Low-light test shots have been jaw-dropping good
Still need to setup the camera as most are still in default mode.
Here are a few shots pretty much straight out of camera + cropping

10fps is pretty unreal :D . The silent shutter mode kinda spooked me though. I almost sounds like someone dumped molasses inside the body LOL

The very first Mk III photos I see in my life, and they were taken at a kid's baseball game. [Tears].
What's next, huh? The 600mm f/4 for the Peewee's games ?...
[Sniff]
:p
PS: Notice I omitted my actual comment, as those really look like great photos. :)

Thanks for the chuckle Mario. My kids would kill me if I didn't shoot at their games.

Two days ago, my kid was graduating from this tiny preschool, and I was doing 8fps with a 70-200... I may have overdone it. Hey, at least I did not break out the HD Canon VideoCam.
Congrats on your new 1D Mk III.

Canon HD VideoCam? I'm in the market for a new cam. Guys at Kenmore were recommending the HV20 and I've heard good things on the Sony HDR HC7.
Any thoughts/insight Mario? :)

Congrats on the 400. That's a sweet lens. I just got the 300 2.8 IS and will hopefully test that tomorrow. Can't wait to see your football shots. :)
The Mark III is going to rock during hoop season

Pete, I don't want to take away from the original thread. Canon is good, Sony is a tad better, but price is higher. I personally favor 3CCD when shooting HD, for coloring and contrast purposes. My new Camera is an XHA1, and since it was a big investment for my business, I chose HD because I cannot drop $4k every year on a new camera. (I almost got a non HD XL2 Canon, but thinking of its resale value two years down the road when everything is HD, moved me to the next model).
If I had to make a suggestion, wait until August to start looking, the PMA of video is coming up I think in July, and new models will be released.
Until Blueray or HDDVD Take over, there really is not much sense in HD, as it always ends up compressing or downgrading to some degree. Today I was running a test, and about 30% of the native quality was being dropped by the player & compression (MPEG-2). Give it three months, you will have lot of deals.
Sorry everyone, carry on :)

Darn it! Why in the world did you have to post baseball pics you shot with it ?? I was content with my mkII boat anchor until I saw these. The mkIII just moved to the top of my wish list -- above the 400.

Hahahaha, very much a man after my own heart Jerry. Lusting for camera gear is what life is all about ;)
My 14yo plays again tonight and testing things with the 100-400. Might have the 300 out there too

Your pix look great.
Call me crazy, but I see do not see much difference in those and the one you took here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=317887
I know all the advantages of the pro cameras (focus speed, focus points, etc), but it just goes to show you how much the lenses and the photgrapher play a more important part of the overall capture than the camera.
I know I will catch alot a flack for this post, but hey I got opinions and don't mind sharing them ever once in awhile.
All that being said, I would pick up one in a heartbeat if I could justify it.
Great captures. Enjoy your new toy.

You're dead on and thanks for the comments. The 5D when caught right turns out fabulous shots. I'd get some misses though too :( . Pretty sure the faster and newer AF system on the Mark III will cut those down drastically, or at least I hope it will LOL.
I think where the Mark III will shine is during hoops season and you can crank it up to ISO 3200 and not even blink an eye for quality. Trust me, I've seen some brutal gym lighting last year and just begged for a cam like this.
Keep sharing your comments as they are much appreciated.
Cheers

I know what you mean by horrible gym lighting. Most of pictures in the past year were of both of my girls in gymnastics.
Made a big difference going from my 300D to my current 30D, but I can only fantasize about taking 3200 ISO with decent quality.

Those pictures do not show anything special compare to other MK 2 or N bodies, I honestly do not see where so many "wow" come from.
What's with the congratulations on getting new camera or lens? Did I travel through time or something? If you want it, can afford it, go buy it, what's the big deal?
Someone shed some lights please ... really lost here

Just sharing some thoughts on a pretty heralded new release for Canon. Nothing more, nothing less. No comparisons vs any other brand, make, etc. Does the new camera make me the next Ansel Adams? Heck, I'm not even Gomez Adams status :p
Fortunate enough to afford one, and if I can speak for those with congrats, their just sharing in the excitement. That's all! Hopefully shedding some light.
It's all for fun and hopefully no one is getting too serious ;)

What I like about the IQ is that Mark III seems to create natural looking "punch" to the files without loosing highlight detail.
