I have the 60MM macro and I was just reading that this lens is also a good portrait lens, now I also have the 50 1.8mm. Is the 50 or 60 a better lens to use for portraits?

They're both good. The 50mm f/1.8 is going to have more DOF control (f/1.8 vs f/2.8 ), but in all reality they'll be about the same.

The 60mm will be much sharper, but that isn't always a good thing for portraits. It makes even tiny imperfections in the skin show up really well.

The 60mm has better build, MUCH better AF, and will look/feel more professional. Results wise, you're going to be happy with either.

Thanks Chris, since im use to my 50mm i'll stick with my 60mm for macro only and the 50mm for portraits.

One other thing... Not sure how many aperture blades the 60mm has, but you'll find all the out-of-focus highlights will show as crude pentagon shapes with the 50mm 1.8 because it only has 5 aperture blades. Just something to consider...

the canon 100mm f/2.8 macro is an excellent portrait lens too! also, one the best macro lens, for it's price.
