Sunday's wedding. I loved it.

They gave me an hour for portraits at three locations (hog heaven for me).

The groom's father was the president of a Chevelle club, so the groomsman arrived at the church in 5 classic Chevelles!

Thanks Kathy, Sebastien, and WS!

Kathy - #3 is natural light. I dragged the bride (and groom) into the dingy stairwell of the church because the light was so nice in there. I used my new 500D close-up filter on my 70-200 for #7...first time I've used it...and I love how close it lets me focus. The DOF is a killer, though!

Sebastian - the blog is only a couple of weeks old. Seeing if blogging boosts my business like it has for a few of my friends...

I noticed it when you posted your last wedding (the "celebrity" one ;))... I'll be updating my site very soon and adding one then... :) I figure it can't hurt and I'm sure you'll attract some extra clients with your personality!

sweeeeet, fast cars! Love 'em Jamie! How close can you focus with the 500D? Do you not carry a macro lens around?

Jamie, I absolutely love #2, I like the little bit of motion blur, really adds to the shot in my opinion. I love the rest as well, might have to look into that close up filter, I am never sure what lens to try and get a decent ring shot with.

Loved them all man. Fine job. Is that a church or a castle they are sitting in front of?

Thanks again guys.

Lloyd and Jeff - I don't own a macro lens and, frankly, don't like the idea of having to carry another lens around (I already own too many lenses). So I decided to give the 500D a try, and really like it. It lets me focus from about 2 feet away with my 70-200...200mm's from 2 feet is pretty dang close! At $140 for the 77mm version it was quite a deal cheaper than a 100mm macro, and I get IS when I use it on my 70-200.

On the cars Jeff - The church was only about 500 meters from the train station where we did all of the formals, so i was running to beat them to take the shot. On the way, I was thinking that I would like to get some blur in the cars, while keeping the BG sharp. I went with 1/30 at 17mm's on my 17-40 and I guessed right...

Thomas - that's an old abandoned church that sits beside a reservoir about a mile from the reception location. It was a really cool spot for the portraits!

fantastic...I shot one last weekend and had roughly 30 minutes, which I thought was nice. An hour would have been mint! Only one location though. Having the extra time versus rush rush lets get these done is great. The extra few minutes gave me a chance to think about additional shots that we're on my shot list.

What I love about your stuff, you share all sorts of shots of all sorts of weddings - not just the perfect ken and barbie weddings. You make each bride look glowing. You surely know how to make just about every type of person look their best. Cheers.

Thes are nice. I was wodering how do all the photographers always end up with shots taken from above is this a special thing that amatuers don't know about or is it just stairs at all the weddings?

Thanks Liza

Croasdail, that may be the nicest thing anyone's said about me.

MiniMemories, once you get your pro photographer badge you grow a pair of wings ;). Actually this was in a stairwell, but a higher angle is flattering to just about everyone, so I'll stand on anything I can to get some elevation.

Joanna - I sometimes get red Xs too. Hit refresh and they should show up.

Thanks I was really wondering. I even thought that maybe some of them bring a ladder just to get the pics.

If you are "vertically challenged" like me, you have to do that. A little step ladder is my best friend!

The groomsmen all arrived in the cars. They were all classic Chevelles from the 70's.

Possible silly question! What is a 500D?

A 500D is a close-up filter that screws onto the front of your lens to allow you to focus closer than the lens allows without it. Here it is: http://www.adorama.com/CA77CU500D.html

Without it my 70-200 can focus this close:

With it I can focus this close:

Ok Jamie, I'm starting to think you work for Adorama, the last three things you've posted to buy there I feel compelled to go and buy....:) I really appreciate your personal shopping help- and I mean it- not being sarcastic :) well, maybe a little, but I really appreciate the links :)

Ha ha, Kathy, read my post in the "advice" thread :P. Of course, you're one ot the best photogs here - so you don't need to take that nugget!

As for Adorama - those guys should be paying me a commission. I found Adorama early on when photography was just a hobby, and have been using them ever since. By the time I found B&H, I was already a pretty loyal Adorama customer. I've still bought plenty of high $$$ items from B&H, though...

Wow I might just maybe consider getting a filter like you instead of spending $490 for a macro filter.
Do you use that one a lot for weddings?
In the future I was actually planning on getting a macro, but would a filter like this be great for a ring shot or close ups of other details?

By the way, when you shoot rings. Do you do it before or after the actual wedding? Wondering how usually that's done in regards to the whole schedule and timing.

Beautiful pictures, by the way. Good luck with your blog!
