Hi everyone
As a relative newcomer to digital photography (with a D30 and 300D) I'm keen to buy a relatively compact but still high quality zoom to carry around with me all of the time (I don't often have the space to carry around a bag full of lenses).
Anyone got any advice on the Canon 70-300 DO IS?
Thanks
BOB

Basically it IS nice and compact but the optics are not quite up to it's price .
Most agree that it is optically somewhere between the normal better kit zooms and the excellent 'L' series lenses.
In my opinion that would suit me just fine....but for the same price you can get slightly better sharper lenses
The price seems abit too much to pay for the compact size

Ah,found the link to some comparison examples :D

I'm currently experimenting with these to see how much sharpening and contrast enhancement the DO lens' images can stand

Thanks Ron - nice dog!
That leaves me with a bit of a dilemma. I've already got the 70-200 f4 L but I also really want something with a good max focal length (min 200mm and preferably at least 300mm) that I can carry around and hand hold (hence the IS of the 70-300 appeals) in light down to about 1/30 f5.6 (don't want much hey!).
Anyone got any suggestions?
