I have to take photographs of a presentation using my 10D.
The room has no windows, and has a mixture of fluorescent and tungsten lighting.
What would be the recommended white balance or colour temperature to use. I am considering not to use flash due to the many issues already discussed on this forum.

It's hard to say. It would be best to use the custom white balance function on your 10D - see page 52 of the manual.

It works like this: take a photo of a grey card or another object with a neutral color under the lighting in the presentation room (it doesn't necessarily have to be white, as the manual says). On the menu, choose Custom WB and press the SET button. Select the image of the grey card and press SET again. Press the menu button again to exit the menu.

Now press the AF - WB button on top of the camera and turn the quick control dial to select the custom white balance setting.

I would recommend shooting RAW if you don't normally. This will give you far more adjustment parameters including your WB and exposure once downloaded. Sounds like you will need as much image manipulation flexibility as possible to ensure a productive outcome.

Both fluorescent and tungsten lights in the room?

Speak to the facility manager and find out of both are on the same electrical switch circuit, or if they are separate. If separate, then have them turn off the weaker of the two. Then you'll have only one source lit.

If that fails, then get them to turn off both fluorescent and tungsten. Instead, bring up your own 500 watt quartz worklights to illuminate the presentation.

Then get the camera working with that (custom white balance, etc.).
