I realize based on the experience in this forum that this will sound really elementary but I don't really know what Raw is nor the benefit of shooting RAW. I shoot JPEG and always have. What is the difference? I use the EOS 1 Mark IIn. I have only recently switched to digital so I am re-learning my trade. I like to do a lot of Post event processing. Would RAW files be easier to deal with?

This is an article called 'Why RAW'. It's a bit older but has some good info.

I have switched to RAW about a year ago. It's ok. Most RAW articles are extremely biased towards using RAW... obviously. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter which, you can get spellbinding results from both. Just find a workflow that works for you whether that be raw or jpeg. I only shoot RAW for paid shoots (well, most of them) and go jpeg for everything else.

After using JPEG for a weekend, I tried RAW, yes it takes more time, but the pics have a much better quality about them that makes them stand out from the rest of the pns crowd.
