'elo again...I've been reading much here and appreciated the feedback on several questions I've asked in the past.
Really stuck b/w deciding on 17-55 IS or 24-70. But before you flame the 'ell outta me for yet another 'tell me what to buy' thread please read on:lol: (then flame:rolleyes:)
I have a 30D on the way (a few days away) to compliment my 5D.
I think I've read EVERY thread here on comparing the two lenses. And I just can't get past the IS advantage of the 17-55. I even had the 24-70 loaded in B&H cart last night but couldn't hit 'send':confused:...lurking was that damn IS feature of the 17-55 tell me to re-think. So I'm re-thinking.
So...assume I toss a 17-55 on my 30D. Great, stars align...money pours in, bridesmaids swoon...
Would using my 70-200 f/4 IS with a 1.4x TC (kenko) be a viable option on my 5D. I know I'd lose another stop going down to f/5.6 but would using the TC just be stupid? Purpose, of course, would be for more reach during ceremonies and candids at reception (assuming decent light was available).
Wouldn't having the 70-200 w/ 1.4 TC be almost the same on my 5D as having same lens, sans TC, on a 30D (1.6x crop factor)...or am I missing something, like loss of AF or IS or speed, etc when using the TC??
I want to eventually get the 70-2.8 IS but figured the back up body/flash was more of a priority.
Just curious if anyone has tried the 1.4 TC on a 70-200 for weddings and what there thoughts were. Thank you!
