Between those posts and the "what should I buy next" threads they have to constitute a large volume of the bandwidth on this site. I wonder how many people would be completely happy with their new glass had they not posted or ever read a sharpness thread.

Almost as quiet as a deserted island.

I've had this damn camera barely 3 weeks and I'm already looking for a 20D! WTH??? This is the best camera I've ever owned and is it good enough for me? NO! I blame this board. ALL OF YOU!!!!!!

Or found out about 'pixel peeping/100% crops'. Honestly how many times have you looked at a developed photo at 100% and though, "way too soft"?
There was one thread started not too long ago where someone wanted to know if their lens was 'sharp'. Now I dont know who it was nor do I care, I honestly dont....really...dont, nor am I bashing the person. But the O.P. took a photo of a helicopter, probably flying several hundred feet in the air, and posted a 100% crop of the heli and asked if it was sharp.
A severe case of pixel peeping I thought. But it can happen very easily when so many threads critique sharpness to death.
Cause and effect.
Then you got the 'which lens to buy'. I try to stay away from those when buying something, there will always be someone who doesnt like the suggestions and recommend something else. I made that mistake myself (starting the thread not the lens choice) and somehow it got completely off topic.

There is probably a 'trousers on the net' forum somewhere and right now some Dumbo is posting 'do my trousers look sharp' and 'do my trousers make my ass look fat'. The world is filled with the insecure, the inexperienced and the incompetent. They need room. Bandwidth is cheap these days. Many collude. One can simply not respond.

Well, yesterday, when I popped my 24-105 on my 5D, I was surprised to hear my camera ask, "Does my bokeh look fat in this?" ;)

Well I'm not that surprised as I have the same combo and it is definately a girly camera with its soft curves. With my 30D I could leave the same lens on for days and he never even noticed :-)

Fear not Lucy... the time to worry is when you start thinking that maybe the 1D series AND a big white lens isn't that big and heavy to carry around all day just for fun
cheers
