congratulations!
it looks so tiny ;)
you, obviously, have to get a battery grip and a bigger lens (70-200 4L, for example) ;)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Seems just like yesterday I was taking photos to document that special moment like you did ... Only difference was it was my son and wife coming home from the hospital  :D
(to be honest ... had I thought of it, I would have recorded the special moment the UPS truck delivered my 10D too)
Good luck and have fun with the camera!

Congratulations! I just experienced the same feeling when my 50mm 1.8 arrived yesterday via UPS. Now if I can just stop working, I may be able to squeeze off a few shots.

Too funny. c0ntr0lz, you are such a photo-geek!! The first photo you shoot is of yourself, in the bathroom mirror, with your camera. What a freak!
Now, you are officially one of us. 8)
We've got to get you some L-glass now! ;)
Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of dSLR.

Eh he doesnt have to get some L glass, if he picks up least one canon leans with the USM motor built in, that'll feel great to him. Heck if you dont want to spend as much on a lens as an L lens, probally wouldnt hurt to pick up a Canon 28-135 USM IS, basic zoom range, pretty sharp, and pretty fast, I have that and the 50mm f/1.8, now I just want either the Canon 100mm Macro, or the Canon MPE-65 (1x to 5x Macro).... anyone wana lend me some money.
Have fun accessorising that camera but other than the battery grip, try to make sure any accessories you can get are going to possibly work with a body upgrade ( 10D, etc ). It'll make the investment go much further.

yea, the 50mm f/1.8 is the first lens I bought too (a little over a week ago). It's a really nice lens, I took a few nice pix with it.
The second lens, I ordered today from B&H. I couldn't take it anymore, I don't have a long zoom so I ordered a Canon 75-300mm f/4.-5.6 USM for $169(non IS version because the image quality is rated higher then the IS, plus I don't wanna spend too much). My initial plan was to wait until I have enough to buy the 70-200 f/2.8L, but I broke down and changed my plans. now the L lens is #2 on my list. In mostly 2 weeks I shall get the #1 on my list ...Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro. Then I will stop spending until my budget recovers from the deficit.
Happy spending :P

thanks guys
drisley well i'm taking pix and the meter show center but when the pic displays it's blown waaaaay over exposed
so i drop it like 2 on the meter and the pix are ok
i'm still learning, so we'll see what happens
ps(going to open a post on that issue)

That is weird.
I guess it depends on what mode you are using.
If you are using manual, then it automatically uses central weighted metering.
I usually find the metering to be very good. If anything, the DRebel (and 10D) is known to slightly underexpose to preserve highlights.

Ah, ok, that might be the problem.
As mentioned, Manual uses centre-weighted metering, and perhaps that is the problem. Ie, the object at the centre might be very dark.
However, it looks like you have alot of experience with SLR's, so I'm sure you know what you are doing.

ummm this is my 1st SLR, i've owned an A80 for about 7 months now and then got this
so how do i get it to not use centre-weighted metering?

Oh, sorry.
By looking at your website I figured you had been using film SLR's for a while. DOH!
One feature drawback of the 300D compared to the 10D is that you cannot select metering modes. It's done automatically.
In M mode, center-weighted average is used.
In all other modes evaluative metering is used.
So, in M mode, more emphasis is placed on what is at the center point.
So, if you have a very dark subject right at the center, there is a chance that the metering will overcompensate and produce a blown out picture.
This type of metering has been around for a long time, and experienced photogs know when/how to compensate.
If you press the Exposure Lock button, then the camera uses Partial Metering, which is almost like Spot Metering. This places even more emphasis on the center focus point for metering than center-weighted.
I really like the info found on this page:
