So I've been searching for help on tripod collars for my f4 and the cheapest price I found was a Roxen collar for $77. Is this my cheapest option? The only reason why I think I would need a collar is that I recently purchased a set of extension tubes and I think that there would be too much strain on the mount if I connected it to my cheapo tripod.

Buy a salad next time instead of steak and you're covered.

I bought the Canon ring from 17th street for $120.00 shipped. Stick with Canon, you will be much happier............

Duck tape. Cheap and it won't come off, neither will the sticky residue for that matter.....

Trying to save a dollar or two, a friend of mine bought one of the Epray, inexpensive, "knock-off" tripod rings for his 70-200 lens and it broke after 3 days use. The ring had a big void in the casting on one of the halves and broke at the void. Plus, for the time he got to use it, it wasn't as smooth as my OEM ring, either. Spend the extra dollars for Canon OEM.

Do a search. Forum member LightRules did a mini review of one of the aftermarket rings and seemed quite happy with it. Even with tubes, I don't think the lens would put too much strain on the lens mount. The f4 version really isn't that heavy.

It felt real top heavy with the full set of tubes on it so I thought a tripod ring would make it better. I'll try it mounting it on the tripod a few times and hopefully it won't fall over.

The black canon ring is less expensive than the white one.
