I just went out for the first time with my Canon S50. It was a nice day out and was trying the macro feature. I have never tried macro's before and was curious what you thought of this or for any suggestions.

Not bad for a first macro :lol:
The background is distracting. Try some more dark background.

i was thinking the same, maybe crop some off the left and right so that there is not so much space for the eye to get lost in. Maybe keep in the stem though since it shows more of the complete flower.

I am loving this camera. I will hopefully find some good shots out there again to take some more pictures.

I know it is not smooth at all hehe, but this is my first day using GIMP so I have no idea what I am doing with it. Still got a lot of learning to go. I need to find a way to make it look a lot smoother but here it is for now. Am I heading in the right direction?

Use LEVELS or CURVES to darken the background. These are Photoshop commands, but they probably have an equivalent in GIMP.

In photoshop, try USM 145/.4/0 You want to sharpen this right to the edge of oversharp. It's not tack sharp as it is and it needs to be sharp to have that wow effect. It looks like all the data is there for a nice sharp image so when I pulled it down and tried USM with photoshop it looked much better to my eye. The cropped version is much better. I always tell people to crop, crop crop. Crop it, then crop it again. I think you have it tight enough. LOL.

What causes the left side to have a hard edge outlining hte dandelion. The right side has no such hard edge, like somebody trimmed the undergrowth like a hedge on the left. It runs from about 1 oclock, counterclockwise to about 6 oclock. It is just barely visible on areas on the right side. Just curious.
