Well, had my first photo shoot with a 4 1/2 month old little girl. Proved to be a little harder than expected, but surprisingly I was able get a few decent shots. It's a hard age, since they can't sit up and she wasn't content to lay down. Anyway, here's a few, all taken with my 85 1.8. All CC welcome!:)

I really like number one and number three. I have had children this age and they are really hard to pose. Anyways I like the colour clarity in the first one and the odd composition of the third one. The blanket against the black back drop looks very cozy.

4 month olds are the easiest to photograph - this is coming from an ex studio photographer who would do sessions from 3mth olds - 12yr olds and trust me....4 and a half mth olds - E-A-S-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next time try a mini bean bag, prop bubs up and put their elbows down so their hands are under their chin, distract them with bells or toy up high then get them to focus into the camera (Best with tripod)
Have parent holding their bottom as well so they don't slide off!!!
All about distraction and keeping them entertained...i find that "Your beautiful" works VERY well - i dunno why but you godda talk cute to them - they love it haha!!

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions.
PIXI_666 - I had several pillows and such for propping, many toys for distraction and tried numerous times to keep her elbows down so that her hands would be under her chin...............all to little avail. All she was concentrating on was getting to her toes! We learn as we go and I'm looking forward to another baby session in a few weeks.

Oh the toes--my favorite part on a baby. Take the time to shoot the feet, hands, ears. Makes for some cute pics.

I keep going back to the first one, something about it that stands out to me. The only thing I'd do was zoom...oops I mean backup a little in that one, its cropped a bit tight on her head for my taste, dodge the eyes to draw your attention a bit more to her but otherwise I think its a lovely shot.
That last one just screams high contrast B&W to me. I took some of my daughter like that one and they looked great in B&W.
Just my 2 cents.

I like #1 best. Very cute capture, but not loving the crop. Is that an in camera crop?

I think the first one is the best in the entire series....it is one for the mommy's wall. ;)

I agree that the first one is a bit tight on the crop, however, that just happened to be the way it was snapped........one of those quick, spur of the moment snaps!;) And that's just what I got.

I Like 5 and 4, but I think you've nailed the exposure dead-on on all of them.
