Ever since the rule of thirds thread popped up a few weeks ago i've been trying to apply that to my photographs. Some people are born with the ability to do this by instinct but most of us have to think it out. All of us have taken some crappy pictures that otherwise had good potential, I think we've all been at the point where we can just pass the blame off to poor equipment, but when your holding $2000+ in your hand you have to start thinking of what the real problem is.

I saw a photograph here and so i took a picture:

I previewed it and was not too impressed, i then remembered the "rule of thirds" and i think...i applied it here. I know i like this version much better at least:

I like the composition of G2 more than G1, and I think the exposure is better also.

Yes, it is much better than the first picture. What is on the right side of the wheelbarrow? If you shot it again with the wheelbarrow on the left third of the photo, would it have the effect of the wheelbarrow leaning into the picture rather than leaning out of the picture? Just a thought.

I have a weird sense of the rule of thirds - I might have put the front wheel near the center of the shot, thus giving space in front of the wheelbarrow.

But I have to say, I'm really not partial to either one. Depending on which part of the photo one might look towards, you might be within the rule in either photo, or close to it. What draws the eyes most in the picture?

Revised Rule 0f Thirds as applied to digital cameras:
Take a gazillion shots
Throw away 1/3 before processing
Throw away 1/3 after processing
Keep the last 1/3 and tell everyone you were surprised they all came out so well!
